A system and method are provided for creating one or more dynamic visual representations of a user and sharing the dynamic visual representations with contacts of the user. The dynamic visual representations are created from video data captured by the user to indicate the status of the user such as an emotion of the user. The dynamic visual representations include video or image data that is displayed so as to give an appearance of motion. In some embodiments, a displayed dynamic visual representation is changed in response to an action by the user or an action by one of the contacts of the user. The dynamic visual representations may be simultaneously displayed for multiple users and may be used to create a visual component in a contact application such as an address book application.read more
