Journal ArticleDOI

Presence and significance of naturally occurring chemical elements of the periodic system in the plant organism and consequences for future investigations on inorganic environmental chemistry in ecosystems

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present the status of the Biological Trace Element Research (BTER) from a biological point of view and present a scientific proposal for further research work on a local, regional and global scale.
Journal ArticleDOI

Neutron activation analysis in the life sciences

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed the development of methods for instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) and their applications in the life sciences, focusing on epithermal activation with reactor neutrons (ENAA), and the advantages of this technique in analysis of environmental objects.
Journal ArticleDOI

Accumulation of rare earth elements in human bone within the lifespan

TL;DR: It was shown that after treatment with lanthanum carbonate as a phosphate binder, contents of Gd and La in the bone tissue of patients are two to three orders of magnitude higher than normal levels, and in the authors' opinion, REEs incorporation may affect bone quality and health similar to other potentially toxic trace metals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reevaluation of the trace element content in Reference Man

TL;DR: In this paper, the total body content of several trace elements for the 70 kg Reference Man has been reevaluated using recent analytical data, and the evaluation leads to the following conclusions: for Al, Ba, Cu and F, the present estimates show an increase; for Br, Cs, I, Pb and Zn, the average values derived from the present evaluation have remained close to the 1975 estimates; for As, Cd and Rb, the total contents have declined; for B, Co and Mn the uncertainty of the 1975 evaluations have been reduced; and for Au

Medical elementology as a new scientific discipline

TL;DR: The main strategic aims and tactical tasks of the new scientific discipline of medical elementology are outlined and some corresponding statements are made.
