TLDR
In this paper, the total phosphate content of detergent materials is determined by measurement of the HPO molecular species at wavelength 528 nm in a cool hydrogen-nitrogen diffusion flame.
Abstract
The total phosphate content of detergent materials is determined by measurement of the emission of the HPO molecular species at wavelength 528 nm in a cool hydrogen-nitrogen diffusion flame. Preliminary treatment with cation-exchange resin is necessary to remove interference by metals. Analytical results on detergent samples containing up to 20 per cent. of phosphates (expressed as P2O5) indicate a precision of the order of 2 to 4 per cent. for the method.

The Determination of Phosphorus in Fire-Resistant Textiles by Cool-Flame Emission Spectroscopy:

TL;DR: In this paper, the phosphorus content of fire-resistant textiles is determined by measurement of the emission intensity at 528 nm of the HPO molecular species, produced by aspiration of an aqueous sample extract into a cool hydrogen-nitrogen diffusion flame.

Determination of total phosphorus in detergents by atomic absorption spectroscopy.

TL;DR: The phosphorus is determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy using a phosphorus hollow cathode tube using a method of additions to overcome matrix interference and is in good agreement with a standard colorimetric method.
