Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of bretylium on intracellular cardiac action potentials in relation to its anti‐arrhythmic and local anaesthetic activity

TL;DR: Pretreatment with bretylium, 20 mg/kg intravenously, significantly increased the amount of infused ouabain required before the appearance of the first signs of atrial arrhythmia in anaesthetized guinea‐pigs, but did not prevent ventricular arrhythmias.
Book ChapterDOI

Adrenergic Neuron Blocking Drugs

TL;DR: The reader is directed to earlier publications, especially the excellent one by Boura and Green (1965), for full coverage of the literature available up to the time of their appearance.
Journal ArticleDOI

A study of the antiarrhythmic action of certain beta-blocking agents☆☆☆

TL;DR: It is suggested that the neural depressant action of practolol is responsible, at least in part, for its antiarrhythmic action against ouabain-induced cardiotoxicity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antagonism of ventricular arrhythmias induced by digitalis--a neural phenomenon.

TL;DR: A correlation between nerve terminal depression and blockade of digitalis-induced cardiac arrhythmias suggests that neurodepression plays a role in the antiarrhythmic action of these materials.
