TLDR
In this paper, the effect of the soil environment on the corrosion process of the steel pipeline was investigated by electrochemical methods and the results showed that the corrosion behavior of steel pipeline without any protection in compared with corrosion products surface of pipeline took a 72 % higher rate.
Abstract
The aim of this work was to research the effect of the soil environment on the corrosion process of the steel pipeline. The corrosion of the gas pipeline DN 500 after 48 year´s operation has been studied by electrochemical methods. The samples of pipeline steel STN 41 3030.0 were tested in soil electrolyte for 6 hours. Corrosion resistance R p of the steel samples was evaluated by open circuit potential and potentiodynamic polarization resistance measurements. Corrosion rate i corr of studied steel was determined by using potentiodynamic polarization method. Corrosion behavior of surface without and with corrosion products was compared. Corrosion process of steel pipeline without any protection in compared with corrosion products surface of pipeline took place about 72 % higher rate.
