Journal ArticleDOI

The biology of xylem fluid-feeding insect vectors of Xylella fastidiosa and their relation to disease epidemiology.

TL;DR: Two Xylella diseases, citrus variegated chlorosis (CVC) and Pierce's disease of grapevines, have emerged as important issues within the past decade and are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Keys to the families of cicadomorpha and subfamilies and tribes of cicadellidae (hemiptera: auchenorrhyncha)

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provided illustrated keys to adults reflecting the current higher classification for families of Cicadomorpha (cicadas, spittlebugs, leafhoppers, and treehoppers) and for subfamilies and tribes of Cicadellidae (leafhoppers), excluding Deltocephalinae.
Journal ArticleDOI

A new sharpshooter threatens both crops and ornamentals

TL;DR: Because of the potential distribution and large host range of the glassy-winged sharpshooter, other diseases caused by different strains of X. fastidiosa may have an even greater impact on the state's agricultural and ornamental landscape industries in the future.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phylogeny of the major lineages of Membracoidea (Insecta: Hemiptera: Cicadomorpha) based on 28S rDNA sequences.

TL;DR: Analysis of sequences from a 3.5-kb region of the nuclear ribosomal 28S DNA gene spanning divergent domains D2-D10 supports the hypothesis, based on fossil, biogeographic, and behavioral evidence, that treehoppers (Aetalionidae and Membracidae) are derived from leafhopper (Cicadellidae).
Journal ArticleDOI

A review of the tribes of Deltocephalinae (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha: Cicadellidae)

TL;DR: The classification of the largest subfamily of leafhoppers, Deltocephalinae, including 38 tribes, 923 genera, and 6683 valid species, is reviewed and revised and an updated phylogeny of the subfamily based on molecular and morphological data and an expanded taxon sample is presented.
