ReportDOI
Synoptic survey of water quality and bottom sediments, San Juan Bay estuary system, Puerto Rico, December 1994-July 1995
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a method to solve the problem of homonymity in homonym identification, i.e., homonymization, in the context of homology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Improving sediment-quality guidelines for nickel: Development and application of predictive bioavailability models to assess chronic toxicity of nickel in freshwater sediments
M Vangheluwe,Frederik Verdonck,John M. Besser,William G. Brumbaugh,Christopher G. Ingersoll,Christan E. Schlekat,Emily R. Garman +6 more
TL;DR: Normalization of toxicity values reduced the intersediment variability in toxicity values significantly for the amphipod species Hyalella azteca and G. pseudolimnaeus, but these relationships were less clearly defined for the mayfly Hexagenia sp.
Journal ArticleDOI
China's Yangtze estuary: II. Phosphorus and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in tidal flat sediments
TL;DR: In this article, the concentration of phosphorus (P) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were determined in tidal flat sediments from the Yangtze estuary and Hangzhou Bay.
Journal ArticleDOI
Occurrence and distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in surface sediments of San Diego Bay marinas
TL;DR: Investigation of the spatial distribution, composition, and sources of PAHs in sediments of three recreational marinas in San Diego Bay, California revealed significant differences among marinas, with concentrations in one site exceeding 16,000ngg-1.
Book ChapterDOI
Sediment Quality of Estuaries in the Southeastern U.S.
TL;DR: In this article, a study was conducted to assess the condition of estuaries in the EMAP Carolinian Province (Cape Henry, VA - St. Lucie Inlet, FL).

Mercury Hazards to Fish, Wildlife, and Invertebrates: A Synoptic Review
TL;DR: A review of the available literature on the ecological and toxicological aspects of mercury (Hg) in the environment, with special reference to fish and wildlife resources, is reviewed and summarized in this paper.

Selenium Hazards to Fish, Wildlife, and Invertebrates: A Synoptic Review
TL;DR: A review of the environmental and toxicological aspects of selenium in the environment is presented in this paper, including its chemistry, background residues in biological and other materials, and toxic, sub-lethal, and latent effects (including the effects of Se deficiency).
Journal ArticleDOI
Current approaches to developing sediment quality criteria
TL;DR: It is concluded that, for chemical-by-chemical criteria, the equilibrium partitioning method shows promise; for criteria that are also applicable to chemical mixtures, the apparent effects threshold/sediment quality triad approaches appear to be most appropriate.
