The urban heat island effect, its causes, and mitigation, with reference to the thermal properties of asphalt concrete.

TL;DR: This literature review demonstrates that UHI mitigation techniques are best used in combination with each other and concluded that the current mitigation measures need development to make them relevant to various climates and throughout the year.

New Measurement of Thermal Properties of Superpave Asphalt Concrete

TL;DR: In this paper, a new laboratory procedure for the determination of thermal properties of asphalt concrete specimens was discussed, and the effect of compaction on thermal properties was tested by compacting the briquettes to 67, 99, 133, and 212 gyrations using the superpave gyratory compactor.

An analytical solution to one-dimensional thermal conduction-convection in soil

TL;DR: In this paper, the equation of one-dimensional thermal conduction and convection in soil is solved analytically by applying the traditional harmonic method (HM) and the Laplace transform method (LTM).

Effect of aggregate type, gradation, and compaction level on thermal properties of hot-mix asphalts

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of mix design factors on the thermal properties of Superpave asphalt concrete were investigated using a guarded testing device (k-alpha device) developed recently at the University of New Brunswick.

Calcool: A multi-layer Asphalt Pavement Cooling Tool for Temperature Prediction During Construction

TL;DR: CalCool as mentioned in this paper is a computer tool based on theoretical heat transfer considerations, for use by pavement designers and on-site construction crews to predict the pavement temperature during construction and modify designs or compaction procedures accordingly.

Nonlinear estimation applied to the nonlinear inverse heat conduction problem

TL;DR: In this article, a finite-difference method based on the concepts of a general technique for solving inverse problems called nonlinear estimation is proposed. But the method requires future temperatures when small time steps are to be used.
