CARVALHO, L. L. P. Lévinas, Blanchot: The genre of Philosophy. 2019. Thesis (Doctorate Degree) – Faculdade de Filosofia, Letras e Ciências Humanas. Departamento de Filosofia, Universidade de São Paulo, São Paulo, 2019. Our work has, although indirectly, plural intentions, being the most evident of them, to approach the intellectual relation established between Emmanuel Lévinas and Maurice Blanchot. This relationship has, as a subsidy for its development, the fields of philosophy and literature, which will be approached from the peculiar perspectives of Blanchot. Moreover, we use the concept of community as conceived by Blanchot as the articulating axis of his thought, which is highlighted in relation to other relevant themes primarily the concept of outside and neutral, indispensable for understanding Blanchetian thinking and has a conception related to the themes studied by Lévinas. Democracy and the Politics of the Extraordinary: Max Weber, Carl Schmitt, and Hannah Arendt

There has been much debate about how to locate Hannah Arendt within the tradition of political philosophy. This article argues for an “existentialist” reading, claiming that Karl Jaspers's categories reappear, politicized, in Arendt's own thought. Her language and arguments do not, in fact, become completely intelligible until read in the context of Jaspers's Existentz philosophy. The authors contend that the apparent obscurity and ambiguity of Arendt's writings owe to her attempt to stretch the framework of existentialism to fit the milieu of classical antiquity, to which it is fundamentally alien. Conversely, Arendt appropriated only those aspects of Aristotelian theory that suited her existentially defined concerns while ignoring the rest, a procedure that accounts for many of the tensions and contradictions found in her work.

"Cases on Both Sides": Patterns of Argument in Legal Dispute-Negotiation

Abstract Although Hannah Arendt only explicitly references the book of Ecclesiastes in order to contrast its views with her own, she and Qoheleth parallel each other on substantive issues. After showing how an influential translation of a key motif from Ecclesiastes led Arendt to misapprehend Qoheleth, this study unpacks their intellectual common ground on matters of affirming worldly life; the nature of action; and critical views of the human heart. Yet this third area which addresses human nature also highlights a divergence between them on how thinking relates to the problem of evil.
