TLDR
A plurality of packet data sources, eg, packet application modules, and synchronous data sources are coupled to the same TDM bus for communicating data to a network access module.
Abstract
A plurality of packet data sources, eg, packet application modules, and synchronous data sources, eg, synchronous application modules, are coupled to the same TDM bus for communicating data to a network access module A portion of the bandwidth, or time-slots, of the TDM bus is allocated as a multiple-access packet channel that is shared among the packet application modules As a result, the network access module receives a single, continuously multiplexed, packet stream for transmission to an opposite endpoint Packet application modules on the TDM bus contend for this multiple access packet channel when transmitting to the opposite endpoint In the receiving direction, each packet application module accepts the entire received packet stream from the network access module and may either filter the packets using their address field or may transparently forward the data to a packet service

Systems and methods for multiple mode voice and data communications using intelligently bridged TDM and packet buses and methods for performing telephony and data functions using the same

TL;DR: In this paper, the TDM bus and a packet bus are intelligently bridged and managed, thereby enabling such multiple mode/protocol voice and data transmissions to be intelligently managed and controlled with a single, integrated system.

Method and apparatus for packet aggregation in packet-based network

Carl Ketcham
TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for improving the efficiency of packet-based networks by using aggregate packets is described, which can reduce the transmission time when there are multiple packets being sent to common destinations because the interpacket time may be reduced.

Methods and apparatus and data structures for providing access to an edge router of a network

TL;DR: In this article, the layer 2 (e.g., MAC) address of the customer device connected with the port can be associated with, and therefore determined from, the IP address of an attached device.

Methods, apparatus and data structures for segmenting customers using at least a portion of a layer 2 address header or bits in the place of a layer 2 address header

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a firewall function that allows or denies a packet based on at least a portion of a unique bit string (or context information) which replaced layer 2 header information (e.g., the layer 2 address).

Network combining wired and non-wired segments

Yehuda Binder
TL;DR: In this article, a local area network (LAN) is defined, in which both wired and non-wired segments communicate using propagated waves such as radio, sound, or light (e.g. infrared).

Communication line interface for controlling data information having differing transmission characteristics

TL;DR: In this article, a programmable station controller is arranged to statistically multiplex the inputs associated with the bursty data while allowing the continuous data to pass on dedicated time slots, and transmission compatibility between bursty and continuous data inputs is assured by subdividing the transmission on the single link into frames having four time slots.

Dynamic bandwidth allocation mechanism between circuit slots and packet bit stream in a communication network

TL;DR: In this paper, a system for dynamically allocating circuit slots in frames which are used for exchanging bits between users connected to nodes of a communication network linked by means of medium links having transmit and receive interfaces, the frames are delimited by flags and divided into bit slots which may be used for synchronous circuit flow or asynchronous packet flow.

Bus arbitration method for telecommunications switching

TL;DR: In this paper, a bus arbitration method for telecommunications switching is provided that receives a plurality of requests for an available asynchronous bus time slot, wherein each request has weighted age (62).

Channel allocation on a time division multiplex bus

TL;DR: In this article, a method and apparatus for quickly allocating channels on a TDM (time division multiplex) bus to devices requesting access to those channels was proposed, where each device wishing to gain access to the channel applies its own unique nine-bit device code to the bus in the channel time period, sequentially, in order to significance.

Arbitration method and device for transmit mode access to the transmission medium of a distributed switching network

TL;DR: In this article, a method of arbitration for transmit mode access to the synchronous transmission medium of a distributed switching network whose architecture is based on a transmission medium time-shared between different stations, in which carries information in repetitive time positions, and in which a nominal time position being assigned on the basis of predetermined access criteria to respective stations communicating within the network, and spillover of stations outside the nominal time positions thus assigned is allowed.
