TLDR
In this paper, the resonance Raman spectra of 2,2′-spirobi[2H-1-benzopyran] in various solvents reveal that at least two isomers exist in solution, the relative abundance of which depends on polarity and hydrogen-bond donor ability of the solvent.

Transient Resonance Raman and ab Initio MO Calculation Studies of the Structures and Vibrational Assignments of the T1 State and the Anion Radical of Coumarin and Its Isotopically Substituted Analogues

TL;DR: In this paper, the vibrational assignments of ground state S0, CM•-, and 3CM* were performed based on both the frequency shifts on isotopic (18O, 13C, and deuterium) substitutions and normal-coordinate calculations using the force constants obtained by ab initio molecular orbital computations.

Molecular dynamics simulation of poly(spiropyran-L-glutamate) : influence of chromophore isomerization

TL;DR: Cooper et al. as discussed by the authors studied the influence of spiropyran to merocyanine ring opening on a model of poly(spiropyan-L-glutamate) as implied by the experimental data and showed that the α-helical secondary structure is less conserved in the polypeptide substituted with the merocynine form of the chromophore.

Resonance raman studies of transient species in the photochromism of 1',3',3'-trimethylspiro-[2h-1-benzopyran-2,2'-indoline]

TL;DR: In this article, the transient species in aliphatic hydrocarbons involved the least polar TTC configuration (trans-trans-cis with respect to the three C-C partial double bonds in the merocyanine-like skeleton), while in polar solvents, CTT and CTC configurations having larger dipole moments are more stable than TTC.

Time-resolved resonance raman studies of the photochromic reaction of 6-nitro-1′,3′,3′-trimethylspiro[2H-1-benzopyran-2,2′-indoline]

TL;DR: The transient resonance Raman spectra of 6-nitro-1′,3′, 3′-3′-trimethylspiro[2 H -1-benzopyran-2,2′-indoline] reveal that at least five transient species are involved in the photochromic reaction of this compound.
