Use of sympathomimetic amines in heart failure
TLDR
On the basis of present information, the development of a more ideal sympathomimetic amine for the treatment of congestive heart failure appears to be feasible.Abstract:
Sympathomimetic amines that increase cardiac output and decrease total peripheral resistance may be useful in the treatment of certain patients with congestive heart failure. The pharmacologic actions of three such amines, epinephrine, isoproterenol and dopamine, are presented and clinical experience obtained with these amines is reviewed. The myocardial actions of sympathomimetic amines are compared with those produced by digitalis. On the basis of present information, the development of a more ideal sympathomimetic amine for the treatment of congestive heart failure appears to be feasible.read more

Medical Therapy of Acute Myocardial Infarction by Application of Hemodynamic Subsets
TL;DR: The goals of prompt and effective therapy of disordered cardiac function and preservation of ischemic muscle, although far from achieved, have been greatly advanced in the past several years by the widespread use of hemodynamic monitoring.

Cardiotonic activity of amrinone--Win 40680 [5-amino-3,4'-bipyridine-6(1H)-one].
TL;DR: The cardiotonic activity of a new, noncatechol, nonglycoside agent, amrinone, was investigated in vitro and in anesthestized and unanesthetized dogs and produced a positive inotropic effect with a rapid onset and long duration of action.

Catecholamine excretion and cardiac stores of norepinephrine in congestive heart failure.
TL;DR: It is concluded that heart failure is associated with augmented activity of the sympathetic nervous system, reflected in increased norepinephrine excretion and often associated with a deficit of cardiac norpinephrine.

The hemodynamic response of man to nor-epinephrine and epinephrine and its relation to the problem of hypertension
TL;DR: The consistency with which the actions of nor-epinephrine reproduce those of stimulation of sympathetic excitor nerves has led competent investigators to the conclusion that it may be sympathin E, as first suggested by Bacq.38

Supersensitivity and subsensitivity to sympathomimetic amines
TL;DR: The purpose of a critical appraisal of the various hypotheses concerned with the mechanism of supersensitivity to sympathomimetic amines is not so much to belabor the negative aspect as to emphasize the pressing need for the recognition that this field is much more complicated than is generally realized.
