Abstract
The paper addresses the main implications of adopting a microeconomic applied perspective for management and policy aspects of cultural built heritage. Within this framework, the rationale for analysing cultural built heritage as a multi-attribute mixed capital good and for implementing experiment-based valuation tools is addressed. The analysis of the multi-faceted set of services provided by built heritage is crucial for linking supply and demand considerations and for implementing innovative policy strategies at the level of individual site. Discrete choice multi-attribute valuation methods are thus presented, investigated and implemented as a practical and sound tool for applied economic analysis in the field. Results deriving from a stated preference analysis on visitors of a worldwide known site in Italy are discussed, focusing on the role of valuation experiments for the analysis of user preferences and for the associated decision making process.

Economic valuation of cultural heritage sites: A choice modeling approach

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used a mixed logit model to evaluate the economic value of cultural heritage sites and found that only some of them are valued positively: extending the period of temporary exhibitions, hosting various events and having "shop and cafe" and "fine dining".

A Choice Modeling Application for Greek Heritage Attractions

TL;DR: In this article, the authors adopt a discrete choice modeling methodology with a focus on capturing systematic heterogeneity to evaluate tourists' preferences for two Greek heritage attractions and present empirical justification for the frequently cited argument for adopting a more customer-oriented rationale for the optimal use of heritage resources.

World heritage: where are we? An empirical analysis

TL;DR: A statistical analysis of the UNESCO World Heritage List is presented in this article, which reveals the facts but refrains from judging whether the existing distribution is appropriate or not, leaving that task to the discussion in the World Heritage Convention.

Valuing the Multiple Impacts of Pesticide Use in the UK: A Contingent Ranking Approach

TL;DR: In this paper, the contingent ranking method was used to estimate the value of the human health and biodiversity impacts associated with pesticide applications, using a green consumer product as a payment vehicle, and the resulting estimates showed that, on average, consumers are only willing to tolerate between six and eight cases of human illness to save an entire species of farmland birds.

Sustainable urban development in historical areas using the tourist trail approach: A case study of the Cultural Heritage and Urban Development (CHUD) project in Saida, Lebanon

TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue that to guarantee the sustainability of any development intervention in these areas, a master planning process must be undertaken to balance all of the aspects of development, and tackle the interconnectedness of these aspects as an approach to their simultaneous development.
