Risk factors for human disease emergence.

TL;DR: This study represents the first quantitative analysis identifying risk factors for human disease emergence, with protozoa and viruses particularly likely to emerge, and helminths particularly unlikely to do so, irrespective of their zoonotic status.
Journal ArticleDOI

Diseases of humans and their domestic mammals: pathogen characteristics, host range and the risk of emergence

TL;DR: A database of disease-causing pathogens of humans and domestic mammals was constructed and it was found that helminths and fungi were relatively unlikely to emerge whereas viruses, particularly RNA viruses, were highly likely to emerge.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antimicrobial Use and Resistance in Animals

TL;DR: Alternatives to growth-promoting and prophylactic uses of antimicrobials in agriculture include improved management practices, wider use of vaccines, and introduction of probiotics to minimize the further development of antimicrobial resistance.
Journal ArticleDOI

The epidemiology of Mycobacterium bovis infections in animals and man: A review

TL;DR: Possible methods of limiting spread of infection from wildlife to cattle including the use of vaccines are outlined and the usefulness of DNA fingerprinting of M. bovis strains as an epidemiological tool and of BCG vaccination of humans and cattle as a control measure are reviewed.

Selenium in the Environment, Metabolism and Involvement in Body Functions

TL;DR: Selenium ( Se 34 79 ) is a metalloid which is close to sulfur (S) in terms of properties as discussed by the authors, and it is one of the most abundant metalloids in the atmosphere.
