Aid, Nontraded Goods, and the Transfer Paradox in Small Countries

TL;DR: In this article, the authors construct a model of the transfer paradox for a small open economy with nontraded goods and show that increased production of non-traded goods can change their domestic prices so as to offset the otherwise beneficial effect of aid and, under certain conditions, to create a transfer paradox even in a small country.

Tied Aid and the Paradoxes of Donor-Enrichment and Recipient-Impoverishment

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors rework the economics of foreign aid under novel assumptions and make allowance for the possibility that aid is tied, in whole or in part, in the donor or in the recipient.

Chapter 1 Introduction to the Economics of Giving, Altruism and Reciprocity

TL;DR: Altruism, giving and pro-social conduct, and reciprocity, are the basis of the existence and performance of societies, through their various occurrences: in families; among the diverse motives of the political and public sector; as the general respect and moral conduct which permit life in society and exchanges; for remedying “failures” of markets and organizations (which they sometimes also create); and in charity and specific organizations as discussed by the authors.

Aid and trade

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors survey the recent theoretical and empirical literature that explores the relations between aid and trade and ask about the complementarity or substitution effects at work, distinguishing between the effects of aid on trade flows and on trade policies, of the donor as well as the recipient countries.
