Persistence of in vitro lymphocyte response to tuberculin in skin test negative children immunized with bcg in infancy

TL;DR: Lymphocytes from BCG vaccinated children retain some sensitivity to tuberculin even years after the BCG vaccination and even at the time when the skin reactivity disappeared, according to PPD stimulated lymphocyte reactivity.

Long-term results of BCG vaccination in the southern United States.

TL;DR: It is concluded that the risk of tuberculosis among nonreactors is too low to justify the use of BCG in the US, and BCG vaccination was least effective among groups most in need of protection, especially Blacks.

TL;DR: The usefulness of BCG vaccination in reducing the incidence of tuberculosis in a community depends not only on the extent to which the attack rate in converters is reduced, but also on such epidemiological features of the community as the percentage positive, the attack rates in them, and the conversion rate for tuberculin negatives.
