Determination of actinide speciation in solution using high-energy X-ray scattering
TL;DR: High-energy X-ray scattering has been used to understand the coordination environment of the uranyl ion in a perchlorate solution and finds that five-coordinate uranyl is 1.19±0.42 kcal/mol more stable than its four-coordinated counterpart under the conditions of the experiment.
Book ChapterDOI
Structures of Complexes in Solution Derived from X-Ray Diffraction Measurements
TL;DR: In this paper, a survey on the structures of aqua complexes derived from solution diffraction data is presented, where the Bragg-Brentano parafocusing geometry is used in which the incoming X-ray beam and the measured diffracted beam form the same angle with the horizontal surface of the liquid sample.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coordination around thorium(IV) in aqueous perchlorate, chloride and nitrate solutions
TL;DR: In this article, the thorium(IV) ion in aqueous perchlorate, chloride and nitrate solutions has been determined from large angle X-ray scattering measurements, and the first coordination sphere contains 8.0±0.5 water molecules with Th-H2O bond lengths of 2.485 A.
Journal ArticleDOI
The hydrolysis of lead(II). A potentiometric and enthalpimetric study.
TL;DR: Equilibrium constants determined in nitrate medium show good agreement with those pertaining to perchlorate medium if complexation of lead(II) with nitrate is taken into account.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preliminary tests on the use of an acoustic levitator for liquid X-ray diffraction experiments.
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that it is possible to use acoustical levitation to keep a droplet of liquid and solid (powder) samples in an X-ray beam for a sufficient time for collection of the Xray diffraction pattern.
