Solid waste in the Philippines is converted to energy through steam gasification processes. Different biomass waste materials were gasified using a fixed bed reactor and a thermal analysis-mass spectrometer unit, resulting in the production of bio-oil, pyrolysis gas, and syngas . Municipal solid waste (MSW) was used as feedstock in a gasification experiment, and hydrogen production was optimized at a reaction temperature of 800°C with a steam flow rate of 0.2 ml/min . A power plant based on solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) was studied, utilizing synthesis gas generated through steam gasification of solid waste. The calculations showed a synthesis gas output of 55 m3/h and a chemical efficiency of 35.4% . A software system was developed to determine the capacity of steam power plants required for converting MSW into energy. The software predicted an energy potential of 3245.54 MWh for 584 tons of MSW with a heating value of 20 MJ/kg .
