For channels that do not behave ergodically, the conventional fixed-rate Shannon capacity only depends on least-favorable channel conditions, while the variable-rate capacity notions are able to capture the whole range of channel states and their likelihood, even in the absence of any side information about channel state at the transmitter.
The results reveal that cooperative communication attains significant improvement in terms of channel capacity of the system.
Thus, the channel capacity can be determined.
Nevertheless, locally, the multipath richness of the communication channel can have a significant impact on the capacity performances.
They propose a contingency theory in which communication strategy moderates the impact of channel conditions (structure, climate, and power) on channel outcomes (coordination, satisfaction, commitment, and performance).

In this paper, we provide the first comprehensive study of channel coding in the low-capacity regime.
We show through a number of examples that these methods can closely approach channel capacity.
This is in sharp contrast to the behavior of capacity in single-channel reception schemes.
It is shown that the second model results in a better agreement of the achievable capacity with the measured channel.

What scale can be used to measure communication?5 answersA scale that can be used to measure communication is the Communicative Competence Scale (CCS). This scale was developed by Wiemann to assess an individual's ability to choose among available communicative behaviors to achieve interpersonal goals while maintaining the face and line of fellow interactants within the constraints of the situation. The CCS has been found to have good internal consistency and evidence of construct and concurrent validity. Another scale that measures communication is the Design Communication Assessment Scale (DCAS). The DCAS was developed to evaluate the effectiveness of design communication in conveying information about product designs to consumers. It assesses dimensions such as form, function, solidity, usefulness, style, eco-consciousness, and uniqueness. The DCAS has been shown to have reliability and validity, and its use has led to improved performance in various metrics, including click-through rates and retail sales.
How to measure carboxylation capacity?5 answersThe carboxylation capacity can be measured using different methods. One common technique is to derive the maximum carboxylation capacity (Vc,max) from the initial slope of an A-Ci curve, which represents the response of photosynthesis (A) to intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci). However, this method can be laborious and time-consuming. An alternative approach is the "one-point" method, which estimates Vc,max from net photosynthetic rate at saturating irradiance and ambient atmospheric CO2 concentration (Asat) measurements. This method has been found to provide a robust means of estimating Vc,max, especially when leaf respiration during the day (Rday) is known. However, estimating Rday can be challenging, and it may lead to some error in the estimation of Vc,max. Overall, both the A-Ci curve method and the one-point method can be used to measure carboxylation capacity, but they have their limitations and require careful consideration.
What do we know on the information channel capacity in animal communication?5 answersThe concept of information in animal communication is central to understanding how animals transmit and receive signals. Animals acquire information from signals, which affects their responses. Calls with different features can elicit different responses, and acoustically similar calls can elicit similar responses. Animals also respond to the relationship between signal sequences, indicating that signals encode a rich amount of information. The capacity of the kinesthetic system to transmit information derived from torque cues has been investigated, with experiments showing varying levels of information transfer. The capacity of the kinesthetic system for torque is argued to be around 1.67 bits. Different genera of animals use different communication strategies, such as sound or vibration, to carry information over long distances. The acoustic signal and the way information is encoded in the signal vary depending on the animal's size, anatomy, physiology, and habitat.
What is communication skills and how to measure it?3 answersCommunication skills refer to the ability to effectively share information, thoughts, and emotions with others. It includes various aspects such as oral, written, and social conduct. Assessing communication skills is important for understanding an individual's ability to communicate in different contexts. The assessment of communication skills can be done using various instruments and approaches. One approach is a programmatic assessment, which involves longitudinal learning with ample practice in an authentic setting. This approach emphasizes the integration of learned communication skills into purposeful and goal-oriented clinical communication. Another approach is the development and validation of assessment batteries specifically designed for assessing communication skills in a particular context, such as the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Interpersonal Communication Skills Assessment Battery (STEM ICSAB) for women doctoral students in STEM fields. These assessment batteries consist of multiple instruments that assess different aspects of communication skills, such as knowledge, coping self-efficacy, and actual skills. Overall, assessing communication skills involves evaluating different dimensions of communication and can be done using various instruments and approaches.
