This prevents useful features such as region-of-interest (ROI) coding, where, for example, the subject in a photograph may be lightly compressed while the background is heavily compressed to hide irrelevant details.
The simulation results show the proposed method is more effective for coding regions prediction than the existing coding region discovery tools.
It is suitable for the application of region-of-interest coding and can be cascaded with frequency filtering to achieve even more data reduction.
Surprisingly, high conservation is evident not only for the coding region, but also for the untranslated regions.
Hence, Region Based Coding (RBC) technique is significant for medical image compression and transmission.

Network coding can substantially increase the region of stability in case a portion of the new peers arrive with randomly coded pieces.
However, by examining only that information which is considered to be certain and ignoring the boundary region, or region of uncertainty, much useful information is lost.
Our rate region recovers many known rate regions in distributed source coding while unifying them under the same general framework.
Consequently, a noncoding region may inadvertently be identified as a coding region.
For most cases, the conventional intra coding and DMMs can be skipped if the current region is classified as a homogenous region.
We present a novel scheme which addresses the region size sensitivity problem in region-based coding.
Our results indicate that 5th-state coding dramatically outperformed all other coding methods, which in turn all outperformed treating gaps as missing data or excluding gapped positions.
The susceptibility to silencing increases as the coding region elements increase in size.
A huge amount of region shape information in a conventional region-based coding does not need to be transmitted in the new approach, because it can be synchronously obtained from a reconstructed picture in both the encoder and decoder by image segmentation.

It is thus ineffective or inefficient to aggregate various context information from a predefined fixed region.
This makes possible to have arbitrary shaped region coding while the decoder is as simple as a non-ROI capable decoder is.
Additionally, our novel region coding data structure uses much less memory in typical cases than the traditional region label image.

What is the gap in the paper?5 answersThe paper by Chien identifies the "second chance gap" as the difference between eligibility and delivery of second chance relief in the criminal justice system. The study finds that only a small fraction of individuals eligible for relief actually receive it, leaving millions burdened with criminal records that could be cleared under existing law. The barriers to relief include structural issues, administrative failures, and lack of awareness of second chance opportunities. The paper suggests that addressing these barriers through automation, standardization, and moving administrative burdens from the defendant to the state can narrow the second chance relief gap. However, the implementation of second chance initiatives must consider debt-related barriers, incomplete automation, and potential exacerbation of racial disparities. Further research is needed to understand the impact of automated clearance under different scenarios.
What are the gaps about?4 answersThe gaps mentioned in the abstracts are related to various topics. In the first abstract, the gap is about the limited application of genomic tools to study marine invasive species. The second abstract discusses the grey zones in cardiology guidelines, specifically related to ischemic cardiomyopathy. The third abstract focuses on the gaps between poverty alleviation policies and their implementation in managing slum upgrading in coastal Semarang City. The fourth abstract highlights the gaps between clinical practice and the status of current evidence, particularly due to the lack of rigorous studies. Lastly, the fifth abstract mentions the gap in detecting exogenous substances causing high anion gap metabolic acidosis, despite the use of the serum osmolal gap.
Is there a gap effect in reading?4 answersThere is evidence of a gap effect in reading. Studies have shown that there are differences in reading achievement among students in different school types in Germany. Additionally, gender differences in reading comprehension have been observed, with girls generally outperforming boys. The effect of information-gap tasks on reading comprehension has also been investigated, but no significant difference was found between field-dependent and field-independent learners. The Filled Gap Effect (FGE) has been studied in Brazilian Portuguese, indicating that the parser is syntactic in the early stage of processing. Socioeconomic disparities in reading skills have been found among children, with disadvantaged children having a higher risk of poor reading outcomes.
What are the effects of SNPs on coding and non-coding regions?4 answersSNPs can have effects on both coding and non-coding regions. In coding regions, SNPs can alter protein structure and function, potentially leading to diseases such as cancer and diabetes. In non-coding regions, SNPs can impact transcription factor binding, chromatin accessibility, and gene expression regulation. These effects can be context-specific, influenced by factors such as cell state and environmental stimuli. Understanding the consequences of SNPs in both coding and non-coding regions is crucial for identifying potential disease-causing loci and developing targeted therapies.
Is there a gap?5 answersThere is evidence of a gap between theoretical and applied ethics, with ethical theory having relatively little to offer in practical moral problem-solving. In the field of requirements engineering, there are obstacles to better communication between industry and research, such as the lack of formal education on requirements engineering and the "model everything" mentality. However, there are also incentives for bridging this gap, including the availability of books on requirements engineering, better commercial tool support, a strong research community, and market pressure for software production standards. In the context of fiscal policy, the Stability and Growth Pact aims to reconcile the objective of sound public finances with the availability of margins for stabilization, indicating a need to balance fiscal policy objectives. In the field of physiotherapy for back pain, there is a need to interpret available evidence and recommendations to suggest a way forward in managing back pain, including a stepped approach and consideration of patient and practitioner preferences.
How can gaps in communication be mitigated?5 answersGaps in communication can be mitigated through various practices and approaches. One method called Gap Finder, designed for software development, aims to increase requirements-test alignment by detecting potential communication gaps and prescribing practices to mitigate them. Another approach involves managing representational gaps (rGaps) in scientific communication by leveraging conflict to promote learning and innovation, while building relationships among diverse stakeholders. In the context of tracking devices, minimizing communication problems and power usage can be achieved by predicting and notifying authorities in advance about communication gap zones along transportation routes. Additionally, a Fragment Hamiltonian (FH) model provides a quantum-mechanical treatment to capture charge-excitation gaps, enabling new insights into metal-insulator transitions. In the healthcare system, a communication gap arises when occupational therapists' interventions are interpreted in terms of only one type of identity generating process, highlighting the need for more precise communication and integration of implicit knowledge.
