Abstract: Liquid 2-(2-hydroxy-3-higher branched alkyl-5-methylphenyl)-2H-benzotriazole mixtures are prepared by alkylating 2-(2-hydroxy-5-methylphenyl)-2H-benzotriazole with a straight chain alkene or with a branched chain alkene of 8 to 30 carbon atoms in the presence of an acidic catalyst at 100°-200° C. The liquid mixtures exhibit outstanding efficacy in protecting organic substrates from light induced deterioration as well as good resistance to loss by volatilization or exudation during the processing of stabilized compositions at elevated temperatures.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent effectively the formation of red rust on iron and white rust on zinc by combinedly using the ammonium or amine salt of a specified aromatic carboxylic acid, at least one kind of specified benzotriazole or triazole and an alkali metallic salt of a specified aromatic carboxylic acid. CONSTITUTION:A volatile corrosion inhibitor is prepd. as an aqueous soln. by adding 100pts.wt. ammonium or amine salt of an aromatic carboxylic acid represented by formula I, 5-200pts.wt. at least one kind of benzotriazole represented by formula II or triazole represented by formula III and 10-500pts. wt. alkali metallic salt of an aromatic carboxylic acid represented by formula IV. In the formulae, each of R and R3 is 1-10C alkyl, nitro or the like and each of R1 and R2 is H, methyl or the like. The corrosion inhibitor is applied to or impregnated into craft paper or the like and used as a volatile corrosion inhibitor sheet or the like.

CONSTITUTION: The objective ink can be obtained by incorporating (A) the base ink comprising (i) pigment (e.g., carbon black), (ii) dispersant (e.g., styrene- methacrylic acid copolymer monoethanolamine salt) and (iii) aqueous medium with (B) as a rest proofing agent, a benzotriazole derivative of formula (R is H, methyl, ethyl, amino, methoxy, ethoxy or halogen). Abstract: The linkage isomerism in penta-ammine(benzotriazole)ruthenium(II),(III) complexes has been investigated in aqueous solution, using spectroelectrochemistry, cyclic voltammetry, and n.m.r. (1H, 13C) spectroscopy. The deprotonation of the RuII complex (pKa= 6.4) leads to a single, C2v isomer which can be reversibly oxidized to RuIII, with E°=–0:127 V versus normal hydrogen electrode. The oxidized complex isomerizes within the time-scale of the cyclic voltammetry, forming a mixture of Cs(N1) and C2v(N2) linkage isomers, with an equilibrium constant of 1.4 favouring the symmetric species. The analysis of the isomerization reactions in terms of a chemical– electrochemical scheme supports an intramolecular mechanism, involving π-bonded activated complexes.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase the weathering resistance markedly, by adding an UV absorber, a light stabilizer and a specified organophosphorus compound to a composition comprising a polyolefin and an inorganic filler. CONSTITUTION:To a composition comprising 100pts.wt. polyolefin and 1-100pts. wt. inorganic filler, 0.01-0.5pt.wt. benzotriazole or benzophenone UV absorber, 0.01-1pt.wt. hindered amine or phenyl benzoate light stabilizer and 0.01-1pt.wt. organophosphorus compound of formula I or II (wherein R1 and R2, which may be different from each other, are 1-18C alkyls and n is 0-3). As the compounds of formula I, tetrakis(2,4-di-t-butylphenyl)-4,4'-biphenylene diphosphonite is preferable. An example of the compound of formula II is bis(2,4' di-t-butylphenyl)pentaerythritol diphosphonite. The effect of the above mixture is particularly marked for polypropylene.
