TL;DR: The Xu-Tec process as mentioned in this paper is a hybrid technique which has evolved from both ion nitriding and sputtering techniques and uses a double-glow discharge phenomenon inside a vacuum chamber.
Abstract: A new surface alloying technology, the Xu-Tec process, was developed in response to the need for higher quality alloy layers at the surface of less expensive metals or base alloy metals with different characteristics. The Xu-Tec process is a unique and hybrid technique which has evolved from both ion nitriding and sputtering techniques and uses a double-glow discharge phenomenon inside a vacuum chamber. One glow discharge heats the substrate and the second glow discharge produces metallic ions which diffuse into the substrate's surface to form a surface alloy layer. In general, any metallic or metalloid element can be diffused into the surface of plain carbon steel and other conductive substrates to form almost any alloy or alloy steel, such as nickel-base alloy, stainless steel and high speed steel. This process provides for the creation of new alloys, and also for the creation of a deposition layer on the surface of a similar diffused layer, thereby eliminating bonding and adhesion problems. Commercial saw blades diffused with tungsten-molybdenum by the Xu-Tec process have been produced with superior performance and with much less cost than bimetal and high speed steel saw blades. Nickel-base alloy on the surface of low carbon steel plates of surface area 1 x 0.5 has been produced by the Xu-Tec process. The Xu-Tec process offers a powerful means of producing diverse alloy layers in and on the surface of metallic substrates. The versatility and economy of this process permit this technology to be used in many industrial applications.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the heat responsiveness of a switch by providing a ring- like fin situated just under the seating part of bimetal and extending toward a discharge-chamber side, on a plane opposite a plane which the bimetal is seated on the bottom of a projecting part within a discharge chamber housing. CONSTITUTION:A recessed plane 23d is formed on the upper plane of the bottom 23c of a projecting part 23, whereon bimetal 21 is disposed, and the bimetal 21 is seated on the peripheral seating part 23e of this recessed plane 23d. And a ring-like fin 24 is projected toward a discharge-chamber side from a plane opposite the peripheral seating part 23e of the bottom 23c. The fin 24 has its inner circumferential wall 24a situated almost just under the peripheral seating part 23e. The heat that a refrigerant within a discharge chamber 2 has is absorbed by the bottom 23c of the projecting part 23, the fin 24, etc., for being transmitted from the peripheral seating part 23e to the bimetal 21. When a temperature in a refrigerant within the discharge chamber reaches a given bimetal inversion temperature, the bimetal is accordingly displaced with excellent responsiveness for causing a switch to be quickly turned on and off.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a flow control method based on a bimetal restricting the position of a valve disk with the heat conduction from a fluid via a heat transfer element such as a heat pipe or with a heater.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To perform flow control in response to fluid temperature or optionally by heat sensitively operating a bimetal restricting the position of a valve disk with the heat conduction from a fluid via a heat transfer element such as a heat pipe or with a heater. CONSTITUTION:The temperature of a fluid into a valve chamber 4 from a passage 2 is transferred to a bimetal 14 via a heat pipe 12, the bimetal 14 is deformed in the thickness direction according to the temperature, the position of a valve disk 6 against a valve seat 5 is changed, and the fluid flow from a passage 3 is controlled according to the fluid temperature. When the flow is to be optionally controlled, not by the fluid temperature, the temperature in a working space 8 is changed with an electric heater 17, the bimetal 14 senses the temperature change and is deformed, thus the opening of the valve seat 5 is controlled by the valve disk 6. In this case, the pressure change in the working space 8 is absorbed by the bellows 10, and the bellows 10 are operated as heat radiating fins. The flow control by temperature or artificial control can be performed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the damage at the joint of a bump electrode to a chip as well as the deterioration in the characteristics due to the permeation of atmospheric air from occurring by a method wherein the shape and size of an upper side metallic film is formed almost similar to those of a bump electrode while a lower side metallic film is formed to protrude outside from the edge of the upper side metallic film. CONSTITUTION:An upper side metallic film 6 constituting a bimetal film is filmed in almost the same shape and size as those or the bottom part of a bump electrode 7 while the lower side metallic film 5 is formed to protrude outside from the edge of the upper side metallic film 6. Accordingly, the dimension of the bimetal composed of both metallic films 5, 6 normally in different thermal expansion coefficient is contracted to reduce the degrees of inner thermal stress or warp; besides, when the bimetal film is backed with a metal 7 for the bump electrode, the inner stress of the bimetal is displaced and the warp is actually eliminated as well as any crack or damage is avoided during heating and cooling processes. Through these procedures, the troubles such as the damage at the base of the bump electrode 7 to a chip as well as the deterioration in the characteristics of a semiconductor device due to the permeation of atmospheric air from the damaged part can be prevented from occurring.
