TL;DR: In this article, a starting current runs through an auxiliary winding (S), a main PTC (12) and an auxiliary PTC(14) undergo self-heating for an increased electric resistance.
Abstract: When a starting current runs through an auxiliary winding (S), a main PTC (12) and an auxiliary PTC (14) undergo self-heating for an increased electric resistance. When the auxiliary PTC (14) is heated to 140°C, a snap-action bimetal (18) is turned off to stop a current flow to the main PTC (12) and completes the starting of a single-phase induction motor (70). With the bimetal (18) off, a feeble current runs through the auxiliary PTC (14) side only to keep the bimetal (18) off by heat generated by the current.

TL;DR: In this paper, a bimetal 8 is installed in a space formed between a fixed electrode 2 and a movable electrode 3 brought into contact with the fixed electrodes 2 through a contact 3a formed at one end.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermosensitive operation element capable of cutting off a circuit in response to a temperature rise and an excessive current. SOLUTION: A bimetal 8 is installed in a space formed between a fixed electrode 2 and a movable electrode 3 brought into contact with the fixed electrode 2 through a contact 3a formed at one end. When the bimetal 8 is deformed by temperature rise, the movable electrode 3 is pressed up to separate the contact 3a from the fixed electrode 2. When this thermosensitive operation element 1 is installed with the movable electrode 3 and the fixed electrode 2 serially connected to a circuit, the circuit can be cut off when temperature rises. When an excessive current flows through the circuit, the movable electrode 3 generates heat by its electric resistance and the heat is transmitted to the bimetal 8, whereby the movable electrode 3 is separated from the fixed electrode 2 by its contact 3a by deformation of the bimetal 8, so that the excessive current flowing through the circuit is cut off. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel liquid droplet discharging head which can obtain full droplet discharging characteristics, and to obtain an actuator which can obtain full driving characteristics. SOLUTION: In the liquid droplet discharging head, a vibrating plate which forms a wall face of a pressure chamber 1 is constituted of a thin film bimetal 3 comprising metal thin films 11 and 12. One of the metal thin films 11 and 12 which constitute the thin film bimetal 3 is pattern machined as a heater into a shape corresponding to the pressure chamber 1. The thin film bimetal 3 is bent by a difference of coefficients of thermal expansion because of bimetal different kinds of material. An actuator driving force is generated by a displacement amount of the thin film bimetal 3, whereby liquid droplets are discharged. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI

Abstract: Chlorobenzene was dechlorinated by Pd/Fe bimetallic system in water through catalytic reduction. The dechlorination rate increases with increase of bulk loading of Pd due to the increase of both the surface loading of the Pd and the total surface area. For conditions with 0.005% Pd/Fe, 45% dechlorination efficiency was achieved within 5 h. The dechlorinated reaction is believed to take place on the bimetal surface in a pseudo-first-order reaction, with the rate constant being 0.0043 min-1.

TL;DR: In this paper, the stability of colloidal bimetal dispersions in nonaqueous media was characterized by transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction and UV-vis spectroscopy.
Abstract: Colloidal dispersions in nonaqueous media were obtained by simultaneous evaporation of Ni and Cu. The metals were cocondensed at 77 K in an organic matrix of 2-methoxyethanol, 2-propanol or acetone. The metallic dispersions were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction and UV–vis spectroscopy. The stability at room temperature was also measured. The stability of the Ni–Cu bimetallic dispersions is less than that of the Ni and Cu dispersions alone. The presence of more than one phase was observed. It is interesting to note that Ni/Cu ratio does not change the stability of the bimetallic dispersions dramatically. The polarity of the solvent should play a very important role in stabilizing the metal particles by solvatation effects. Transmission electron microscopy studies show the size control effect of Cu with small colloidal size in the bimetal. The electron diffraction studies reveal the presence of amorphous bimetallic particles and particles with crystallinity show typical particles formed for more than one phase (NiO, CuO, Cu, Ni and Cu–Ni). Cu and Ni, for example, are amorphous and crystalline particles, respectively. Differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray spectroscopy characterized the bimetallic solids of Ni–Cu/2-methoxyethanol obtained by evaporation of solvent. The differential scanning calorimetry studies of the solids show transition characteristics of crystalline growth; no glass transitions were observed. The X-ray diffractograms show that the crystallites are too small (less than 100 A), giving rise to low intensity and wide peaks.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a laser micrometer and a constant current source to measure the position signal of the deformed bimetal to the laser micron. And they used the control mechanism to calculate the position of the guide board.
Abstract: The device for sensing the bimetal position, the laser micrometer, the constant current source and the control mechanism are setup on the frame of the automatic measuring equipment. The simulated current is applied to the starter through the constant current source. The device for sensing the bimetal position outputs the position signal of the deformed bimetal to the laser micrometer. The measured data through the control mechanism to carry out the calculation processing are converted to the cutting data of the directional length of the guide board. Thus, the laser cutter carries out cutting. There is the one to one correspondence between the position of the guide board after cutting and the bimetal position deformed caused by heating so as to guarantee the synchronism of the bimetal under heating condition.
