TL;DR: In this paper, the output from a hydrostatic transmission is connected to the rotatable input member of a differential, while the output shafts of the differential are each connected to a drive wheel of the tractor.
Abstract: A drive system for a tractor. The output from a hydrostatic transmission is connected to the rotatable input member of a differential, while the output shafts of the differential are each connected to a drive wheel of the tractor. A clutch interconnects one output shaft of the differential with the input member, and when the clutch is engaged, the output shafts will rotate at the same speed, acting as a solid axle. The steering column of the tractor is connected to a steerable wheel, and when the steering column is rotated through a predetermined arc of about 15°, a linkage interconnecting the steering column and the clutch act to disengage the clutch, so that the drive wheels are permitted to rotate at different speeds. Rotation of the steering column through a greater arc of about 80° will automatically operate a brake associated with the inside wheel in the turn. At higher speeds, rotation of the steering column through a given arc will also automatically reduce the speed of the hydrostatic transmission to eliminate possible instability in a tight turn.

TL;DR: The belt grinder presented in this paper provides a variety of vertical and horizontal position grinding options with an offset axial mount, counterbalanced to rotatably elevate selected work stations.
Abstract: The belt grinder provides a variety of vertical and horizontal position grinding options. The three wheel machine head features an offset axial mount, counterbalanced to rotatably elevate selected work stations. Total revolution of the machine head through 360 degrees produces six distinctive stations to accommodate diverse grinding requirements. The drive motor is mounted centrally within the machine head assembly and it has a drive shaft extending into the V-belt housing. One of the three wheels in the machine head is the drive wheel and it has a drive shaft also extending into the V-belt housing. Step pulleys are mounted on these respective drive shafts to give the belt grinder a speed change capacity. Tension on the abrasive belt and the V-belt is applied or released in incremental order with the revolution of a leveraged step cam. Articulation between two spring loaded idler wheels in the machine head insures synchronous tension, eliminates slack belt slap, and maintains consistent belt line geometry. The belt grinder has a tubular platen that interfaces with the drive wheel which is helically serrated and they function to generate a centrifugal air flow through the platen interior. This design feature moderates the heat build generated by belt friction on the platen surface. The machine also has a system of dual purpose work rests that support the work piece and adjust to guard "at rest" work stations. Other hardware on the machine functions to evaluate machine dust, adjust V-belt and abrasive belt tension and adjust belt tracking camber.

TL;DR: An operator-responsive drive system as mentioned in this paper is capable of rotating a drive wheel in either a velocipede, such as a bicycle, or a stationary exerciser, in a reciprocating, generally linear manner.
Abstract: An operator-responsive drive system is capable of rotating a drive wheel in either a velocipede, such as a bicycle, or a stationary exerciser. In a first mode of operation, drive linkage connects a pair of coupled pedals and a seat pivotally coupled to a frame to a drive sprocket which is rotationally mounted to the frame. Downward displacement of the seat such as in response to the weight of the operator positioned thereupon causes both pedals to be displaced upward in imparting rotation to the drive sprocket which, in turn, rotates a drive wheel coupled thereto. Transfer of the operator's weight to the pedals resulting in the downward displacement of the pedals causes further rotation of the sprocket in the same direction and upward displacement of the seat. The operator may thus propel the vehicle by alternately shifting his weight between the seat and the pedals in effecting reciprocating displacement thereof. In a second mode of operation, the seat is fixedly mounted to the frame and linkage connecting each of the decoupled pedals to the drive sprocket permits the pedals to be alternately displaced downward in a reciprocating, generally linear manner in rotationally displacing the drive sprocket in one direction. The drive system is easily converted from one mode of operation to the other and provides a highly efficient arrangement for converting operator movement to drive wheel rotation.

Abstract: A power supply and transmission system for a bicycle of the type having a frame and a crank housing for a crank-and-pedal and from said crank housing a projecting fork carrying the drive wheel over the drive hub at the other end thereof, and in which the power transmission system comprises a drive shaft which at both ends is connected to angle gears at the crank housing and the drive hub and in which the drive shaft is enclosed in one of the fork tubes, and the power supply is directly connected to the power transmission system at the drive wheel hub. Preferably the crank housing is formed with a several stage gear. The drive wheel hub is formed as a free wheel hub which when pedaling the bicycle forwardly provides a power transmission between the drive shaft and the outer sleeve of the hub. The means for driving and braking the bicycle is a threaded power receiving gear which cooperates with a threaded double conical drive sleeve, which upon movement in one direction connects the power receiving gear to the outer sleeve of the hub, while when moved in the opposite direction connects the outer sleeve of the hub to a stationary mounted brake cone. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the electric power supply and transmission system is mounted in the second one of the two bottom fork tubes, and said electrical transmission system may include a centrifugal clutch for connecting an electric generator at a driving speed exceeding a predetermined value.

TL;DR: In this article, a cyclic single-step control with a tachogenerator is presented, in which the actual speed signal is multiplied by a 1 and added algebraically (to produce a difference signal) to the desired speed signal.
Abstract: The speed to be measured, either engine speed or vehicle (drive wheel) speed, is measured by a tachogenerator which trips a timer to provide a series of measurements. When the system is in use, a driver can store the actual speed at a selected moment as the desired speed. From a linearized model of vehicle speed or engine speed response to acceleration or deceleration of the engine by displacement of a control member, system parameters a 1 and b 1 are derived. The actual speed signal is multiplied by a 1 and added algebraically (to produce a difference signal) to the desired speed signal, with the resulting signal then being multiplied by another constant derived from the system parameter b 1 by reference to weighting factors p and q of a cost minimizing equation relating to the relative significance of obtaining a small control deviation and of limiting or increasing the amplitude of the control signal. An output signal is then provided by the second multiplying stage. The system can be constituted in an analog fashion or it may operate digitally by means of a microprocessor. Smoothing of the input and output signals may be provided by low-pass filtering in the analog case and by providing a moving average with the preceding value in the digital case. This type of regulation, which may be referred to as cyclic or as single-step control, assures an aperiodic run-in characteristic and is stable in all speed ranges.

Abstract: A self-driven transporting unit with a magnetic detector which is propelled along a cable by a drive wheel having spokes arranged in two rows forming a V-shape. The cable is magnetized and mounted in a fixed manner. The spoke arrangement enables the drive wheel to engage with the cable. A programmable electronic control system permits pre-selection of the distance to be covered by the transporting unit and the drop height to which the load is lowered away from the self-driven transporting unit.

TL;DR: In this article, a drive control device for a motor vehicle with rear axle drive is described, which for each driven rear wheel comprises an auxiliary brake, by admission of the correct control brake pressure to which the respective drive wheel tending to spin is slowed down.
Abstract: A drive control device for a motor vehicle with rear axle drive is described, which for each driven rear wheel comprises an auxiliary brake, by admission of the correct control brake pressure to which the respective drive wheel tending to spin is slowed down. The auxiliary brakes are designed as low pressure disc brakes which are incorporated into the housing of the differential gear. They are capable of being acted upon by the outlet pressure of the engine oil pump by way of an electro-hydraulic control element which can be triggered by output signals of an electronic control unit responding to the dynamic behaviour of the driven vehicle wheels. The control device can be switched on and off selectively. When it is switched on the auxiliary brakes are subjected to a basic pressure, by means of which the idle movement in an axial direction of displaceably arranged rotor and stator plates is compensated for and a rapid response behaviour of the drive control device is obtained.
