TL;DR: The intake system of a four-stroke engine is designed to produce pulsations in the intake pipes so that a low-pressure pulse is produced immediately upstream of the intake valve when it opens.
Abstract: 1,102,754. Four stroke engines. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NœRNBERG A. G. March 23, 1964, No. 12245/64. Heading F1B. The intake system of a four stroke engine is designed to produce pulsations in the intake pipes so that a low-pressure pulse is produced immediately upstream of the intake valve when it opens, whereby exhaust gases are first caused to flow into the intake pipe and then returned into the cylinder with the charge when reversal of flow occurs in the intake pipe.

TL;DR: In this article, a piston and connecting rod assembly for an internal-combustion engine is described, and a free-wheel connection is provided between the member and the piston whereby in operation the piston is progressively rotated about its axis.
Abstract: 1,226,140. Pistons and connecting-rods. 4 Sept., 1968 [27 Oct., 1967], No. 42084/68. Heading F2T. In a piston and connecting rod assembly for an internal-combustion engine, a member 9 is coupled to the rod 5 so that pivotal oscillation of tho rod relative to the piston 1 produces rotary oscillation of the member about the piston axis and a free-wheel connection is provided between the member and the piston whereby in operation the piston is progressively rotated about its axis. The rod 5 has a ball end 4 which is housed in a spherical bearing 2, 3 and carries an inclined pin 6 having an end 7 engaged in a recess 8 in the rotary member 9. A free-wheel located between the member 9 and the piston comprises a ring 12 secured to the piston and having recesses 13 with oblique surfaces 14 housing rollers 11 urged between the surfaces 14 and the outer surface 10 of the member 9 by spring-loaded pins 16.
