TL;DR: The world's largest reverse osmosis system for seawater desalination was placed on-line in January 1979 to supply 12,000 cubic meters of desalted Red Sea water per day to the drinking water supplies of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia as mentioned in this paper.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the authors consider the special requirements of the desalination process with respect to its source of energy, which have to be met by an adequate connection system and the resulting problems are discussed.

TL;DR: The possibility of using geothermal resources for desalination of the state's saline water sources is discussed in this article, where the water requirements and availability for New Mexico are described.
Abstract: The water requirements and availability for New Mexico are described. The possibility of using geothermal resources for desalination of the state's saline water sources is discussed. The following aspects of the problem are covered: resource evaluation, geothermal desalination technology, potential geothermal desalination sites, saline and geothermal aquifer well fields design, geothermal desalination plant waste brine disposal, process water pumping and brine disposal unit costs, environmental considerations, and legal and institutional considerations. TL;DR: In the last twenty years world desalination capacity for sea water and brackish water has increased sharply as discussed by the authors, and this rapid expansion has resulted in an increasing number of developments in all kinds of Desalination processes and equipment.
