TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a blanket having a plurality of portions of flexible heat pipes sandwiched between the outermost layers thereof, and the ends of the flexible heat pipe that are free from the blanket are thermally coupled to a combination heating and cooling system.
Abstract: This disclosure pertains to a blanket having a plurality of portions of flexible heat pipes sandwiched between the outermost layers thereof. The portions of the flexible heat pipes disposed about the blanket provide a uniform heating or cooling pattern therein. The ends of the flexible heat pipes that are free from the blanket are thermally coupled to a combination heating and cooling system. When utilizing the heating system, the flexible heat pipes provide elevated temperatures at the blanket surfaces. When utilizing the cooling system, the flexible heat pipes provide lower than ambient temperatures at the blanket surfaces.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a heating system for a motor vehicle with temperature sensors for gauging the compartment temperature as well as for measuring the temperature of the effluent hot air.
Abstract: A heating system for a motor vehicle has temperature sensors for gauging the compartment temperature as well as for gauging the temperature of the effluent hot air. These sensors are connected in series, with the compartment sensor generating the more significant control signal. The flow of heating medium, for example engine water, is regulated by a valve under the control of a regulator which compares the sensors signals with a set-point value. The valve may be cyclically actuated by pulses of fixed frequency but having a width which depends on the results of the signal comparison.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a forced air heating system for homes and other buildings where a fireplace with a circulating air heating chamber is interposed between the fan exhaust of a conventional forced air furnace and a network of air outlet registers positioned in the various rooms to be heated.
Abstract: A forced air heating system for homes and other buildings wherein a fireplace with a circulating air heating chamber is interposed between the fan exhaust of a conventional forced air furnace and a network of air outlet registers positioned in the various rooms to be heated. A bypass air duct is positioned in parallel with the fireplace between the fan exhaust and the network of outlet registers to provide an alternate path for the forced air exhausted from the furnace fan. The system has a control circuit sensitive to room temperature, fireplace heating chamber temperature, and other duct temperatures for automatically operating the system either in a primary mode wherein the fireplace is the primary forced air heating source, or in a secondary mode where the furnace heating elements are the primary heat source. Automatically controlled dampers determine through which of the two parallel ducts the forced air from the furnace fan will travel to the outlet registers, dependent on the mode of operation. In the primary mode, the circuit automatically permits the furnace heating elements to act as a superheater for the heating air under conditions of low fireplace heat output, or alternatively to remain wholly unactivated under conditions of sufficient fireplace heat output.

TL;DR: In this article, a solar radiation energy collector is mounted on the roof of a house to be heated, and water is circulated through it by a pump and returns to a thermal store from which it serves the house heating system.
Abstract: A solar radiation energy collector is mounted on the roof of a house to be heated. Water is circulated through it by a pump and returns to a thermal store from which it serves the house heating system. The collector is mounted with a gap between its underside and the roof. Atmosphere air can be drawn into this gap through a damper at the lower end and is pulled through the gap and discharged by a fan connected to the upper end of the gap. Extract ventilation air from the house can also be passed through the gap by a second fan. This provides additional sources of free heat to supplement the solar energy according to weather conditions.

TL;DR: In this article, a two-conductor connection between the thermostat and the cooling apparatus is employed, and a pair of oppositely-poled diodes are employed at each end of one of the conductors of the connection so that when the control system is established, by a selector switch, in the heating mode the half cycles of one polarity of an AC voltage effect the operation of the heating apparatus, whereas when the system is switched to the cooling mode the opposite polarity half cycles cause operation of cooling apparatus.
Abstract: Thermostat control of separate heating and cooling apparatus is achieved with a system that requires only a two-conductor connection between the thermostat and the apparatus. A pair of oppositely-poled diodes is employed at each end of one of the conductors of the connection so that when the control system is established, by a selector switch, in the heating mode the half cycles of one polarity of an AC voltage effect the operation of the heating apparatus, whereas when the system is switched to the cooling mode the opposite polarity half cycles cause operation of the cooling apparatus. The invention is especially advantageous when a central air-conditioning system is added to a building where only a two-wire cable connects the thermostat to the existing heating system. Rewiring of the thermostat cable is unnecessary.

Abstract: A low wattage electrical resistance heating element is supported within a tubular housing, and an elongated flexible support band is adjustably connected to the housing and extends over a wall-mounted thermostat for suspending the housing in vertically adjustable relation directly below the thermostat. An electrical power cord extends from the heating element through the housing to an electrical power supply, and energizing of the heating element produces a convection current of heated air upwardly through the housing. The heated air mixes with ambient air and flows into the thermostat to provide an air temperature higher than ambient air temperature so that the heating system is controlled in a manner to maintain an ambient air temperature lower than the setting of the thermostat.
