TL;DR: In this paper, a chucking-type pre-ciison cylindrical machining was developed by combining an insensitive vibration cutting mechanism - using a main spindle system which features an air bearing - with superposition superfinishing.
Abstract: A study has been made of the theory and techniques of turning precise circular components. The possibility of such high accuracy cylindrical machining was analysed according to the principle of making a precise circle. In the study, a form of chucking-type preciison cylindrical machining was developed by combining an insensitive vibration cutting mechanism - using a main spindle system which features an air bearing - with superposition superfinishing. In the first process, the work is chucked on the main spindle and machined using a continuously and systematically pulsating cutting force. In the second process, the work is finished by a newly developed superposition superfinishing device which features equivalent grades of ultrasonic vibration stone. Key points of the techniques are a torsional vibration mode tool for producing accurate, high amplitude vibration of the cutting point, and a contrivance for making accurate movements of the superposition superfinishing device. Machined roundness of 0.1–0.2 μm and surface roughness of 0.03–0.09 μm R max were obtained with plain carbon steels, stainless steels and hardened steels (HRC 41, 53, 60). It is considered that turning to roundness ≈ 0 , cylindricity ≈ 0 and surface roughness ≈ 0 can be realized by means of this new machining process and its lathe.

TL;DR: In this paper, a stroke adjusting mechanism for the working shaft is connected with a working shaft so as to vary the amount of expansion and contraction of the worn tool, and the machining time can be therefore equalized.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To expand the diameter of a boring tool when the boring tool has worn away during machining process and equalize machining time by connecting a stroke adjusting mechanism with a working shaft to expand and contract the boring and honing tools individually. CONSTITUTION:A boring tool 21, rought and finish honing wheels 31, 41 are fitted on a machining head 4 under the condition of freely expanding and contracting respectively in radial direction. A working shaft which moves axially and expands or contracts the boring tool 21 and honing tools 31, 41 individually is inserted in the machining head 4. A stroke adjusting mechanism for the working shaft is connected with the working shaft so as to vary the amount of expansion and contraction of the boring tool 21. After boring process, a hole is cleaned with an air ejected from a nozzle 501 and its bore is measured with an air micrometer 51. When the bore becomes less than a desired value owing to the worn tool 21, the diameter of the worn tool 21 is enlarged by the amount of wear by means of the adjusting mechanism, and the machining time can be therefore equalized.

TL;DR: In this paper, a trueing gear wheel has a core which supports a grinding layer constituting the working surface and containing abrasive grits, which is used to increase the shape accuracy of the trueing tool.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a trueing tool is involved. The latter is used for the true to shape, fine machining of a fine machining tool which is used for its part for the fine machining of workpieces. The trueing tool, in particular a trueing gear wheel for the fine machining of a honing gear wheel, has a core which supports a grinding layer constituting the working surface and containing abrasive grits. In order to increase the shape accuracy of the trueing tool, a form (mould) is used during its manufacture, this form (mould) having a formed surface which is complementary to the working surface of the trueing tool to be manufactured and represents therefore a negative of the working surface. The grinding layer is deposited or formed thereon, whereupon the finished trueing tool is removed from the form (mould) when a solid bond between the core and the side of the grinding layer opposite the working surface has been achieved.

TL;DR: In this paper, a set of expandable abrasive-coated frustro-conical sleeves are mounted on rotating shafts, one for each cylindrical bore, which circumferentially surround, and are supported by, a rotating inner supporting member.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for honing cylindrical bores adjacent to a larger cavity or bore is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a set of expandable abrasive-coated frustro-conical sleeves mounted on rotating shafts, one for each cylindrical bore, which circumferentially surround, and are supported by, a rotating inner supporting member. The sleeves and supporting member are moved through the bore and larger cavity in a direction along their axis of rotation, and in so doing, the sleeves contact the bore walls to impart a honing action. A means for precisely adjusting the final honing diameter of the sleeves is provided, as well as means for adjusting the distance of the sleeves from the center of the larger cavity. By adjusting the sleeves at successively closer positions to a desired final bore, the bore can be honed with great accuracy.

TL;DR: In this article, a method of displacing or feeding the tool of a machining machine during long stroke honing when machining workpiece bores is described. But this method requires the tool to be attached to a single motor, which operates at high speed and low limiting angular momentum or torque limit.
Abstract: not available for EP0163983Abstract of corresponding document: US4679357A method of displacing or feeding the honing tool of a honing machine during long stroke honing when machining workpiece bores. Rapid displacement feeding or and subsequent machining displacement or stock removal feeding are effected with only a single motor employed in common for different operation, which is controlled in such a way that during rapid feeding or displacement it operates at high speed and low limiting angular momentum or torque limit. Due to the low angular momentum or torque limit during rapid displacement, the speed is rapidly reduced when the honing stones come to rest agianst the bore wall. The control mechanism thereupon reverses the single motor, returns the honing stones by a small amount, and changes over to the machining or stock removal feeding process, which is accomplished at low motor speed and high limiting angular momentum. When a pretermined finished size has been achieved, a displacement control mechanism returns the honing tool to its starting position. The invention covers a method for automatic displacement control of a honing machine, as well as an apparatus for carrying out this method.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for removing the surface stain while improving the workability of a metal die by a method wherein fine grains are jetted from a honing nozzle at high pressure upon the surface of the metal die was proposed.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To remove the surface stain while improving the workability of a metal die by a method wherein fine grains are jetted from a honing nozzle at high pressure upon the surface of a metal die. CONSTITUTION:The jet pressure from a honing nozzle and the material of fine grains are selected not to roughen the metal die material and the hard chrome plating of the metal die surface. As for the fine grains, an indefinitely shaped or crystalline silica, glass beads, walnut powder, thermosetting plastic ball and the like are used together with one another at the same time. In such a constitution, any film of melamine base thermosetting resin conventionally utilized for preventing the stain of applicable epoxy resin may be entirely unnecessary while producing no poisonous gas at all making operation safe and simple as well as cleaning over-all surface evenly.

TL;DR: In this paper, a cutting speed instruction is compared with a motor current driving a wheel, which is input to a pressure controller and its output drives an oil pressure control valve, and a required cutting speed 6 is generated.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To continually finish in fixed accuracy a surface to be machined further in a fixed machining time, by detecting a motor current in an electric motor, which rotates a wheel, and controlling, so that this current always holds a predetermined value, the pressing pressure of the wheel with a value of the motor current being negative feedback controlled. CONSTITUTION: A cutting speed instruction 1, being compared with a motor current driving a wheel, is input to a pressure controller 2, and its output drives an oil pressure control valve 3. This pressure of oil, operating a wheel spreading cylinder 4 generating pressing force of the wheel to a work, performs honing 5. And a required cutting speed 6 is generated. Here a motor current detecting device 7 detects the motor current to be negative feedback controlled so that the cutting speed 6 may trace a predetermined curve. Consequently, a surface to be machined comes to continually provide fixed finishing accuracy and roughness, while a fixed machining time can be obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio

TL;DR: In this article, a disc-shaped brush wheel with brushes including grinder element as a honing tool is used for precision grinding of the rake face and flank of a cutting edge simultaneously in a single stage in processing.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To have precision grinding of the rake face and flank of a cutting edge simultaneously in a single stage in processing, by using a disc-shaped brush wheel, which is constituted with brushes including grinder element as a honing tool. CONSTITUTION:When a brush wheel rotates, the tip of a brush filament 5 is put in contact from the rake face 2 side, and the filament 5 deflects for abrasion of the tip of said rake face 2 with abrasive grains at the foremost part of filament. After passage of the foremost part, said deflection of the filament 5 returns to the straight state, so that the tip of filament 5 causes abrasion also at the flask 3 side while passing there. The filament 5 is provided with a smooth honing surface, which includes a number of abrasive grains so as to cause abrasion of the tip of cutting edge. In the case of a twisted cutter, the tangential line of the spiral curve at its portion for honing shall be in parallel with the wheel shaft, while in the case of a straight edge the straight line of the tip of cutting edge in parallel with the wheel shaft. Thereby manufacture of endmills can be provided in good efficiency and with high economical performance.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To save the energy loss of highly pressurized water in accelerating an abrasive cleaning material, by moving a nozzle defice provided alternately with nozzles of abrasive cleaning slurry and nozzles of highly pressurized water, at the time of bringing the water into collision with the slurry. CONSTITUTION:A nozzle device 1 consists of nozzles 2 of abrasive cleaning slurry 4 and nozzles 3 of highly pressurized water 5, those of which are alternately disposed so that each slurry 4 is sandwiched between the water 5. In case of grinding a metallic plate with the device 1, the device 1 is rocked in the direction of an arrangement of the nozzles 2 and 3. Thus the locus caused by the injections of the slurry 4 and the water 5 is formed into a meandering shape, and the whole quantity of the water 5 collides with the slurry 4 to accelerate effectively the slurry 4. Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve transferability of toner, separability of paper, and cleanability by roughening the surface of a photosensitive layer made of an Se type photoconductor deposited on a conductive substrate of an aluminum cylinder or the like by the liquid honing method to a specified surface roughness. CONSTITUTION:An Se type photoconductive layer made of Se-As alloy or the like is deposited on a conductive substrate of an aluminum cylinder, and the surface of this photosensitive layer is roughened to <=40mum surface roughness, preferably to the range of 0.1-1.0mum by the liquid honing method. Since the specularly finished surface of the photosensitive layer formed on the substrate is roughened by the liquid honing method, the conditions of the surface roughness of the conductive substrate and vapor deposition, etc. need not be set delicately. Transferability of toner, separability of paper, and cleanability are improved without impairing the photoconductive characteristics of the photosensitive layer. Any defect of an image, such as spots or white streaks, due to working defects of the surface is not found on the image.
