TL;DR: In this paper, an optimized intra-HeNB GW handover operation that reduces signaling to and from an LTE MME (Mobility Management Entity) function of the 3GPP E-UTRAN Evolved Packet core is proposed.
Abstract: A method to provide an optimized intra-HeNB GW handover operation that reduces signaling to and from an LTE MME (Mobility Management Entity) function of the 3GPP E-UTRAN Evolved Packet core (EPC). In operation, an HeNB Gateway (GW) intercepts handover requests from a source HeNB to a target HeNB and processes these requests locally, with minimal interaction from the MME. Where possible, messaging to and from the MME is minimized and/or reduced, irrespective of the 3GPP requirement that the GW relay all handover-related messages to the MME.

TL;DR: The proposed radio resource allocation scheme improves the performance of D2D and cellular UEs by reducing interference between them and the proposed scheme uses the different frequency bands chosen as users' locations to alleviate interference.
Abstract: Device-to-Device (D2D) communication is the technology enabling user equipments (UEs) to directly communicate with each other without help of evolved nodeB (eNB). Due to this characteristic, D2D communication can reduce end-to-end delay and traffic load offered to eNB. However, by applying D2D communication into cellular systems, interference between D2D and eNB relaying UEs can occur if D2D UEs reuse frequency band for eNB relaying UEs. In cellular systems, fractional frequency reuse (FFR) is used to reduce inter-cell interference of cell outer UEs. In this paper, we propose a radio resource allocation scheme for D2D communication underlaying cellular networks using FFR. In the proposed scheme, D2D and cellular UEs use the different frequency bands chosen as users' locations. The proposed radio resource allocation scheme can alleviate interference between D2D and cellular UEs if D2D device is located in cell inner region. If D2D UEs is located in cell outer region, D2D and cellular UEs experience tolerable interference. By simulations, we show that the proposed scheme improves the performance of D2D and cellular UEs by reducing interference between them.

TL;DR: In this paper, the HARQ management, scheduling, and measurements for cooperative communication are discussed for a fixed and mobile wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and an evolved NodeB (eNB) respectively.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is HARQ management, scheduling, and measurements, among other things, for cooperative communication. For example, methods herein may be used in situations wherein relaying or helping mechanisms may comprise the use of a relay node which is part of a fixed infrastructure or a relay node which may be a mobile wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). In said situations, a first transmission with first data is established between an evolved NodeB (eNB) and a WTRU. A second transmission with second data is established between a relay node (RN) and the WTRU. Said first and second data are combined for decoding. A single HARQ feedback for said first and second transmissions is sent from the WTRU to the eNB.

TL;DR: This paper proposes a new handover strategy between the femtocell and the macrocell for LTE (Long Term Evolution) -based networks in hybrid access mode that can avoid unnecessary handovers and can reduce handover failure.
Abstract: Femtocell networks that use Home evolved NodeB (HeNB) and existing networks for backhaul connectivity can fulfill the upcoming demand for high data rates in wireless communication systems as well as extend the coverage area. We consider some parameters for handovers, including interference, velocity, RSS and quality of service (QoS) level. We propose a new handover strategy between the femtocell and the macrocell for LTE (Long Term Evolution) -based networks in hybrid access mode. This strategy can avoid unnecessary handovers and can reduce handover failure. In this paper, we analyze three scenarios for handover decision strategy procedures: hand-in for Closed Subscriber Groups, hand-in for non-Closed Subscriber Groups, and hand-out.

TL;DR: Self-organizing schemes for the initial configuration of the neighbor cell list (NCL), maintenance of the NCL, and physical cell identifier (PCI) allocation in heterogeneous networks such as long term evolution systems where lower transmission power nodes are additionally deployed in macrocell networks are proposed.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose self-organizing schemes for the initial configuration of the neighbor cell list (NCL), maintenance of the NCL, and physical cell identifier (PCI) allocation in heterogeneous networks such as long term evolution systems where lower transmission power nodes are additionally deployed in macrocell networks. Accurate NCL maintenance is required for efficient PCI allocation and for avoiding handover delay and redundantly in creased system overhead. Proposed self-organizing schemes for the initial NCL configuration and PCI allocation are based on evolved universal terrestrial radio access network NodeB (eNB) scanning that measures reference signal to interference and noise ratio and reference symbol received power, respectively, transmitted from adjacent eNBs. On the other hand, the maintenance of the NCL is managed by adding or removing cells based on periodic user equipment measurements. We provide performance analysis of the proposed schemes under various scenarios in the respects of NCL detection probability, NCL false alarm rate, handover delay area ratio, PCI conflict ratio, etc.

TL;DR: The overall latency introduced by HSUPA is measured and accurately dissected into contributions of USB-modem (UE), base station (NodeB) and network controller (RNC) by combining traces recorded at each interface along the data-path of a public operational UMTS network.
Abstract: Users expect mobile Internet access via 3G technologies to be comparable to wired access in terms of throughput and latency. HSPA achieves this for throughput, whereas delay is significantly higher. In this paper we measure the overall latency introduced by HSUPA and accurately dissect it into contributions of USB-modem (UE), base station (NodeB) and network controller (RNC). We achieve this by combining traces recorded at each interface along the data-path of a public operational UMTS network. The actively generated sample traffic covers real-time applications. Results show the delay to be strongly dependent on the packet size, with random components depending on synchronization issues. We provide models for latency of single network entities as well as accumulated delay. These findings allow to identify optimum settings in terms of low latency, both for application and network parameters.

TL;DR: This paper proposes a simple and practical resource allocation method by which the scheduler in each eNB can make scheduling calculation independently without any resource contention.
Abstract: CoMP (Coordinated Multiple Point transmission) is being discussed in 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) to improve the cell edge performance as well as the total cell throughput of mobile systems. In this paper, we focus on the control architecture to realize downlink CoMP JT (joint transmission) with inter eNB (evolved NodeB) coordination. We have designed the control architecture with a distributed approach. Since user data is simultaneously transmitted from multiple eNBs to a UE (User Equipment), the schedulers of the coordinated eNBs need to negotiate on resource allocation for CoMP UEs over a backhaul network. This process will be a heavy burden due to the delay of the backhaul network and the complexity of scheduling algorithm that has to take into account a dynamic multi-UE and multi-cell scenario. We propose a simple and practical resource allocation method by which the scheduler in each eNB can make scheduling calculation independently without any resource contention. We also implement the proposed schemes as a real system for evaluation.
