TL;DR: A power transmission chain-belt is constructed of a plurality of ranks or sets of interleaved links, each rank being joined to the next adjacent rank by pivot means, such as round pins, or a pin and rocker, to permit articulation of the belt.
Abstract: A power transmission chain-belt, especially adapted to transmit power between the pulleys of a pulley transmission, such as a variable ratio pulley transmission. The chain-belt is constructed of a plurality of ranks or sets of interleaved links, each rank being joined to the next adjacent rank by pivot means, such as round pins, or a pin and rocker, to permit articulation of the belt. Trapezoidal load blocks carried by the chain have angled edge surfaces to drivingly contact the flanges of the pulleys. In one embodiment of the invention, a block is located between each adjacent pair of pivot means and at least one block has a different width than the other load blocks, so that its edges are free of contact with the flanges of the pulleys and thus do not drivingly engage the flanges. Substantially the same effect is achieved by "skipping" one or more load blocks in the assembly, i.e. by eliminating one or more load blocks in the chain-belt. These arrangements change the generated noise pattern produced when the chain-belt engages the pulley flanges.

TL;DR: A portable removable sludge cleaner for tanks is provided in two sections, one of which rests on top of the tank and has a travelling bridge from which is suspended the second section.
Abstract: A portable removable sludge cleaner for tanks is provided in two sections, one of which rests on top of the tank and has a travelling bridge from which is suspended the second section. This second section is a suction head carrying frame unit deposited into one end of the tank with the aid of a crane or overhead pulley. The travelling bridge section is then deposited on top of the tank by the crane or pulley. The bridge is centered for balance during the mounting operation and after depositing on the tank, the bridge is moved over the suction head unit previously deposited in the end of the tank. Ramp hitches on the bridge then engage support pins on the head unit lifting its front end off of the bottom of the tank. Pipe couplings on the rear end of the unit are then connected to counterparts depending from the bridge to lift the rear end of the unit off of the tank bottom. The bridge travels on tracks provided by the frame and is propelled by a drive screw to traverse the length of the tank. Four suction heads on the bottom of the header unit are connected by individual pipes and valves to a suction pump on the bridge to be selectively evacuated to sweep sludge from the bottom of the tank for discharge over the side of the tank from the pump. The heads are positioned to each clean a quadrant of the tank bottom.

Abstract: A sheet steel poly-V-grooved pulley having a special cross-sectional contour is made optionally by any one of three different cold working manufacturing procedures. Special physical properties or characteristics are developed in the pulley by the manner in which the metal in the V-groove body and single and double walled terminal flanges are cold worked. The cold working involves forming in stages of manufacturing from a cup-shaped blank to the finished pulley product a stepped inner body wall surface equivalent to a tapered surface with improved substantially uniform torque transmitting strength in the grooved body from web wall to open end. Also involved in the cold working is an increase in pulley diameter in certain portions of the finished pulley and a decrease in diameter in other portions from the diameter of the side wall of the cup shaped starting blank.

TL;DR: A variable ratio pulley system has a pair of pulleys mounted on input and output shafts, respectively, and interconnected by a drive belt as mentioned in this paper, which is adjustably controlled in axial width to establish the drive ratio between the shafts.
Abstract: A variable ratio pulley system has a pair of pulleys mounted on input and output shafts, respectively, and interconnected by a drive belt. The pulleys are adjustably controlled in axial width to establish the drive ratio between the shafts. Each pulley has a load cam sensitive to the torque load being imposed on the respective shaft. The load cams are interconnected by a linkage and preload spring which establishes the minimum axial force operable on the pulleys. The linkage transmits forces between the pulleys thereby imposing a tension force on the belt established by the greater of the forces generated at the load cams. A drive ratio selector is connected to one side of the input pulley to add or subtract a force so that the axial forces on the input and output pulleys are properly balanced when the desired drive ratio is established. The output shaft of the pulley system is connected through a starting mechanism to a forward-reverse gear arrangement and then to a final drive and gear differential.

TL;DR: In this article, a continuous belt is provided with two parallel spaced rows of retention pins which are automatically separated in the loading zone to facilitate positioning of the assemblies on the conveyor.
Abstract: A conveyor apparatus for transporting elongated, flat electronic component assemblies or the like through a surface treatment chamber in a predetermined orientation. A continuous belt is provided with two parallel spaced rows of retention pins which are automatically separated in the loading zone to facilitate positioning of the assemblies on the conveyor. A wedge-shaped shoe member forces the respective pins transversely outwardly and is provided with an aperture permitting the insertion of the assemblies therethrough. Secure retention of the assemblies in the treatment chamber is assured by an inverted U-shaped channel which urges the retention pins into engagement with the component assemblies. The pins may be bent outwardly to enhance the compressive forces exerted by the pin pairs comprising the respective rows. A center-ribbed exit belt pulley deforms the belt along its longitudinal center axis thereby spreading the pin rows to aid removal of the assemblies following surface treatment. A U-shaped pin member defines a pair of retention pins. Each pin member is positioned in a given pin row thereby maintaining maximum belt flexibility enabling belt deformation over the ribbed exit pulley.

TL;DR: In this article, the electron beam welding was used in the manufacturing of an electromagnetic coupling device by a structure wherein a rotor, a pulley and a non-magnetic spacer are made into one piece by electron beam welding.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To effectively utilize electron beam welding in the manufacture of the electromagnetic coupling device by a structure wherein a rotor, a pulley and a non-magnetic spacer are made into one piece by electron beam welding. CONSTITUTION:When an exciting coil 2 is deenergized, because of no magnetic flux, an armature 7 is separated from the rotor 3 by means of the elastic force of a plate spring 8, resulting in transmitting no power. When the coil 2 is energized, the magnetic flux PHI is developed, resulting in attracting the armature 7 to the rotor 3 and consequently transmitting the turning force transmitted to the pulley 6 to a driven shaft. Because the diameter of the spacer 4 of the rotor 3 is designed to be larger than the pulley 6, the pulley 6, the spacer 4 and the remaining parts of the rotor 3 are manufactured separately and then made into one piece by electron-beam-welding therebetween at the portions 13, 14, 15, 16 and 18. The thermal strains develped in the respective parts due to electron beam are so small that no double matching is eliminated. The welding is performed in their thrust direction or from their outer periphery in their radial direction.

TL;DR: In this paper, the chain-belt is constructed of a plurality of ranks or sets of interleaved links, each rank being joined to the next adjacent rank by pivot means, such as round pins, or a pin and rocker, to permit articulation of the belt.
Abstract: A power transmission chain-belt (30), especially adapted to provide a drive and transmit power between the pulley of a pulley transmission, such as a variable ratio pulley transmission. In such each pulley has a pair of flanges, at least one of which is axially movable with respect to the other. The chain-belt is constructed of a plurality of ranks or sets of interleaved links, each rank being joined to the next adjacent rank by pivot means, such as round pins, or a pin and rocker, to permit articulation of the belt. Generally trapezoidal-shaped load blocks (44, 46) are located between the pivot means of each rank or set of links, which blocks have opposite edge surfaces to drivingly contact the flanges of the pulleys. At least one load block has a different width than the other load blocks, so as to contact the flanges of the pulley at a different radial location and different time than the other load blocks. Because of this construction, the generated noise pattern produced when the chain-belt engages the pulley flanges is modified.
