TL;DR: In this article, a remote control switching circuit is provided for enabling a person watching and listening to television to edit out unwanted portions of a television program, when an unwanted portion appears.
Abstract: A remote control switching circuit is provided for enabling a person watching and listening to television to edit out unwanted portions of a television program. Thus, while watching television, when an unwanted portion appears, the watcher uses a remote control device for actuating switches which provide for replacing the audio of the television set with the audio of an alternate sound source and for simultaneously dimming the picture on the tube of the television set so that it is only faintly discernible. Then, by viewing the picture tube, the watcher can see by observing the faint image on the screen when to use the remote control device to again actuate, i.e., reverse, the switches for returning to the audio of the program of the television set in place of the audio of the alternate source and for simultaneously brightening the picture on the tube for normal viewing.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed to increase the number of channels which can be set and to realize a multichannel remote control system that has the occurrence rate of malfunction decreased, by providing a blank unit in the repetitive period of a control signal.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase the number of channels which can be set and to realize a multichannel remote control system that has the occurrence rate of malfunction decreased, by providing a blank unit in the repetitive period of a control signal. CONSTITUTION:When a control signal formed of a few units of modulated frequency signals F1-F4 is transmitted repeatedly at the side of transmitter 1, two blank units are provided in this repetitive period following a control signal of six units, for example, and then the control signal of six units is newly sent out. At the side of receiver 2, storage is done sequentially from the 1st unit of the control signal following the blank unit and four frequencies F1-F4 are combined into six units, so that all combinations can be utilized for channel setting. Further, when two transmitters 11 and 12 are operated simultaneously, the memory of other receiver 23 is stored with a received pattern as much as six units, so that the probability that the pattern of the channel of receiver 23 agrees will lower as much as blank units.

Abstract: The paper discusses the benefits to be obtained by the use of automatic and remote control techniques, and explores the factors which have determined the rate of progress in introducing such techniques. Two major constraints that have affected the introduction of unattended stations, namely the reliability of television and radio transmitting equipment, and the ability to measure automatically and satisfactorily those parameters of the transmission which are indicative of a fault condition. Concurrently with the development of reliable equipment and measuring systems, there have also been developments in the field of data transmission, including telemetry and remote control systems, which have significantly contributed to the system design of unattended and remotely controlled stations. The paper begins with an examination of those factors which contribute to the reliability of television and broadcast-transmission systems, and discusses the choice of components, layout of equipment, and the overall system design. A description of standby systems is given together with the associated control systems. The use of control systems always involves the ability to measure, and, if the control systems are to be automatic in operation, then the measurements must also be automatic. The paper therefore examines the problems of automatic measurements in television and sound-transmission systems. These automatic measurement systems are not yet fully comprehensive, and most broadcasters therefore supplement the automatic control system with manual override functions which can be exercised at a distance. This creates the need for telemetry and remote control systems. The methods of providing remote control to override the automatic systems and to relay operational data to the control points are described. Finally, the paper describes some of the methods employed by broadcasters in Europe and South Africa showing how these features have been combined to provide automatic and remote

TL;DR: In this article, a remote control-digital tuning interfacing system is presented, where an "on board" receiver at the means to be controlled receives coded transmission from the remote point and demodulates it to produce a digitally coded output which is fed to an on board decoder producing the appropriate control voltages to selectively operate electronic switching means.
Abstract: A remote control-digital tuning interfacing system wherein an "on board" receiver at the means to be controlled receives coded transmission from the remote point and demodulates it to produce a digitally coded output which is fed to an "on board" decoder producing the appropriate control voltages to selectively operate electronic switching means. The electronic switching means parallel "on board" push-button operated switches so that a remote control operator can effect, from a remote point, the switching corresponding to that performed at the remote point, thus, only the switching is duplicated and the control complication all resides at the means to be controlled location rendering the system independent of different types of control operation.

TL;DR: In this paper, a low-frequency filter is provided as essential component of the receiver in order to recover the coded remote control commands in a frequency range below the ordinary modulation band (10 to 30 Hz with an audio-frequency range from 50 to 10,000 Hz).
Abstract: Remote control signals which are transmitted non-line-conducted by means of radio-frequency waves are used for switching load objects on and off in a power system. For this purpose, radio waves of existing transmitters, for example broadcast transmitters operating in the medium-wave band (520-1560 kHz) can be used. The transmitter operating in amplitude modulation is modulated, also in amplitude modulation, with the remote control commands in a frequency range which is below the ordinary modulation band (10 to 30 Hz with an audio-frequency range from 50 to 10,000 Hz). For this extraordinary modulation, a reduced modulation percentage of 5% is provided so that no special measures need to be provided at the transmitter end. The receiver (1) for these remote control commands is designed in such a manner that it is capable of separating the weakly modulated pulses from the ordinary modulation so that the latter cannot trigger any faulty switching. For this reason, a low-frequency filter (12) is provided as essential component of the receiver in order to recover the coded remote control commands. The output of the filter (12) is conducted via a rectifier (15) to a level comparator (18) which only passes pulse sequences which reach a modulation percentage of approximately 5%. The switching member (2) for switching a load object (3) on or off is controlled via a following decoder (21).

TL;DR: This paper discusses the development of the MPM Inductive Communication System and significant design considerations along with operational data are presented.
Abstract: The Morgantown People Mover (MPM), located at Morgantown, West Virginia, uses low and medium frequency inductive communications for the wayside-to-vehicle (uplink) and vehicle-to-wayside (downlink) communication links. The system has six uplink and one downlink tones in the low frequency (6-50 kHz) range used to communicate speed, switch, calibration, and stop commands and the collision avoidance "safe to proceed" signal, also downlink switch verification. In the medium frequency range (90 - 130 kHz) uplink (command) and downlink (status) digital data are transmitted using two-tone FSK messages. The vehicle interfaces with inductive loops in the guideway surface which range from ten to one thousand feet in length and are driven through feedlines of up to several thousand feed in length. This paper discusses the development of the MPM Inductive Communication System. Included is a brief history of the Morgantown People Mover and an overview of the Inductive Communications System presently in use. Each subsystem is discussed and significant design considerations along with operational data are presented. Emphasis is placed on our experience with this mode of communications.
