Abstract: Flexible power converter and simplified process controller capable of being configured for a variety of applications with minimal effort. The power converter has a plurality of power switches that can be configured for multiple topologies through selectable routing of switch commands. The process controller can be adjusted through a single timing parameter to process the configured feedback signal. External settings or serial port configuration enable stand-alone or processor-based operation. The invention may be quickly and easily applied as a versatile power supply, motor driver, thermal regulator, or controller for lighting and flow applications. The flexible power converter and simplified process controller reduces development time and cost, reduces parts count and cost, and improves performance and reliability of power and control systems.

Abstract: Existing approaches used to develop compact low-power multichannel wireless neural recording systems range from creating custom-integrated circuits to assembling commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) PC-based components. Custom-integrated-circuit designs yield extremely compact and low-power devices at the expense of high development and upgrade costs and turn-around times, while assembling COTS-PC-technology yields high performance at the expense of large system size and increased power consumption. To achieve a balance between implementing an ultra-compact custom-fabricated neural transceiver and assembling COTS-PC-technology, an overlay of a neural interface upon the TinyOS-based MICA2 platform is described. The system amplifies, digitally encodes, and transmits neural signals real-time at a rate of 9.6 kbps, while consuming less than 66 mW of power. The neural signals are received and forwarded to a client PC over a serial connection. This data rate can be divided for recording on up to 6 channels, with a resolution of 8 bits/sample. This work demonstrates the strengths and limitations of the TinyOS-based sensor technology as a foundation for chronic remote biological monitoring applications and, thus, provides an opportunity to create a system that can leverage from the frequent networking and communications advancements being made by the global TinyOS-development community.

The method uses the controller to do real-time collecting during the running course of the mixing electric vehicle, stores the relative parameters of the running course by the storage medium, and uses MATLAB software to impact the collected parameter into each capacity corresponding curve and then uses the curve to overall merit the vehicle capacity index. The device comprises an embedded CAN controller, an A/D transfer module, an I/O module CPU, a serial port communicating module, a LIN bus module, a RTC real-time clock module, a USB module and a CPLD module.

Abstract: An information handling system has the capability of matching UART baud rates and other serial data parameters between a system UART and baseboard management controller (BMC) UART used for serial-over-LAN (SOL) access to the information handling system via an Ethernet connection, either locally or remotely by a user, administrator, maintenance technician, etc. The BMC may snoop set-up data sent to the control register(s) of the system UART, look up a corresponding baud rate from a baud rate table of the BMC and set the BMC UART to match the system UART baud rate and other serial data parameters so that SOL access to the information handling system is available no matter what baud rate and/or serial data parameters an application may have programmed the system UART configuration registers. The BMC may snoop system UART data over a simple data bus such a low pin count (LPC) bus.

The device is applied in controlling a lighting device, and includes a serial interface, a signal converter, a signal processor and a lighting driving unit. The signal converter converts an inputted signal from the serial interface into a digital signal. The signal processor then extracts a controlling data corresponding to the address-free driving device from the digital signal, and determines whether or not the inputted signal from the serial interface can be outputted to another address-free driving device. The lighting driving unit drives the lighting device to illuminate light based on the controlling data. Accordingly, when the lighting devices are electrically and serially connected, the address-free driving device then controls the lighting devices based on the order of series connection.

Abstract: Microcontroller-based master and slave units are designed with serial ports for communication with a computer and a transmission port to couple the signal to modems at both ends. The programming of the microcontrollers at either end for formatting the data bits before they are sent down the power line and the development of software for putting in place the required master and slave protocols is presented. Coupling data signals to power line through interfacing circuits is a challenging task as power line and the communication system operate at two extremes - very low frequency and high power for the power line while communication is working at very high frequency and very low voltage and current levels. Hence, the coupling circuit to be designed must be capable to withstand the high power system side in order to prevent a damage being done to the electronic side of the communication system. At the same time it must be reliable enough to make sure that data bits are transferred on to the power line with high accuracy. The interfacing circuits are designed and tuned to frequency contents making the bits of data. The frequency performance of these coupling circuits is presented, showing the range a power line can be used for communication of such data.

If the data are not framed by time, the device may determine if the data are framed by delimiters, and if so, may determine an appropriate delimiter-based protocol for the data from a plurality of delimiter-based protocols, and handle the data according to the appropriate delimiter-based protocol. This process may be repeated in an iterative manner to read a stream of data from the serial port. The device may include or be coupled to one or more I/O modules (e.g., for DAQ, motion control, etc.), which themselves may be coupled to a unit under test or other external device or phenomenon via additional devices.

GPS data are transmitted to the first computer COM port via RS-232 level conversion, the PPS second pulse signal of GPS after passing through the level conversion circuit is led to the second computer COM port and used as the interruption triggering signal, and controller for receiving computer serial port is set in embedded real-time operation system environment, so that the computer can respond PPS signal triggered interruption directly to obtain precise interruption time and compare with the time information in the GPS data to realize the precise time collimation of the local computer. Further, several computers and several data sources may realize precise time collimation. The method is simple and has less hardware altering requirement and software control with great flexibility.
