TL;DR: An automatic iterative abstraction-refinement methodology that extends symbolic model checking to large hardware designs and devise new symbolic techniques that analyze such counterexamples and refine the abstract model correspondingly.
Abstract: The state explosion problem remains a major hurdle in applying symbolic model checking to large hardware designs. State space abstraction, having been essential for verifying designs of industrial complexity, is typically a manual process, requiring considerable creativity and insight. In this article, we present an automatic iterative abstraction-refinement methodology that extends symbolic model checking. In our method, the initial abstract model is generated by an automatic analysis of the control structures in the program to be verified. Abstract models may admit erroneous (or "spurious") counterexamples. We devise new symbolic techniques that analyze such counterexamples and refine the abstract model correspondingly. We describe aSMV, a prototype implementation of our methodology in NuSMV. Practical experiments including a large Fujitsu IP core design with about 500 latches and 10000 lines of SMV code confirm the effectiveness of our approach.

TL;DR: In this paper, an easy to use extendible file synchronization system is introduced for sharing information between a handheld computer system and a personal computer system, which is activated by a single button press.
Abstract: Many users of handheld computer systems maintain databases on the handheld computer systems. To share the information, it is desirable to have a simple method of sharing the information with personal computer systems. An easy to use extendible file synchronization system is introduced for sharing information between a handheld computer system and a personal computer system. The synchronization system is activated by a single button press. The synchronization system proceeds to synchronize data for several different applications that run on the handheld computer system and the personal computer system. If the user gets a new application for the handheld computer system and the personal computer system, then a new library of code is added for synchronizing the databases associate with the new application. The synchronization system automatically recognizes the new library of code and uses it during the next synchronization.

08 Jan 2001TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a communications system consisting of a networked multimedia device (also referred to as a multimedia player) and a media server that may be located within a home network or an external network.
Abstract: The present invention contains a communications system consisting of a networked multimedia device (also referred to as a multimedia player) and a media server that may be located within a home network or an external network. Further it contains a method for selecting and delivering multimedia. Specifically, the instant invention focuses on solutions for multimedia content delivery from a centralized repository, via the home-networking infrastructure, to IP based multimedia devices, which are connected to that same network.

28 May 1998TL;DR: In this article, a pervasive, multilayer firewall includes a policy definition component that accepts policy data that define how the firewall should behave, and a collection of network devices that are used to enforce the defined policy.
Abstract: A system provides for establishing security in a network (10) that includes nodes having security functions operating in multiple protocol layers. Multiple network devices, such as remote access equipment (13), routers (14), switches (12), repeaters (16) and network cards (15) having security functions are configured to contribute to implementation of distributed firewall functions in the network. By distributing firewall functionality throughout many layers of the network in a variety of network devices, a pervasive firewall is implemented. The pervasive, multilayer firewall includes a policy definition component (11) that accepts policy data that define how the firewall should behave. The multilayer firewall also includes a collection of network devices that are used to enforce the defined policy. The security functions operating in this collection of network devices across multiple protocol layers are coordinated by the policy definition component so that particular devices enforce that part of the policy pertinent to their part of the network.

TL;DR: In this paper, an ASU server generates a multicast request to agents within its network domain, identifying the newest, available versions of software components that may be installed on the agents.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically updating software components in one or more agents (end systems) in a network. An ASU server generates a multicast request to agents within its network domain, identifying the newest, available versions of software components that may be installed on the agents. Agents compare installed versions with the newest versions and respond to the server request by indicating components that need to be updated. Components include network and non-network software as well as operating system (OS) software. The ASU server then transmits the requested components to the requesting agents in a self extracting compressed file. The file is installed and the components updated without rebooting system software.
