TL;DR: Six new species of tropical Indo-Pacific gobiid fishes may be distinguished from each other by a combination of characters including extent of gill opening, pectoral ray counts, scalation, teeth, colour pattern, invertebrate associate specificity and proportions of head and body.
Abstract: The tropical Indo-Pacific gobiid genus Bryaninops Smith is reviewed and the genus Tenacigobius Larson and Hoese included as a synonym. These small fishes are commensal chiefly on gorgonians and antipatharians. The three previously-known species, Bryaninops erylhrops (Jordan and Seale), B. ridens Smith and B. yongei (Cohen and Davis), are redescribed and figured. Six new species are described: B. amplus, B. clianneae, B. isis, B. loki, B. nalans and B. tigris. These species may be distinguished from each other by a combination of characters including extent of gill opening, pectoral ray counts, scalation, teeth , colour pattern, invertebrate associate specificity and proportions of head and body. A key to the species is included.

TL;DR: Silicoflagellate specimens referable to the genus Octactis Schiller were examined from suspended particle and sediment trap samples recovered from the Panama Basin, near the Hawaiian Islands and in the equatorial Atlantic.
Abstract: Silicoflagellate specimens referable to the genus Octactis Schiller were examined from suspended particle and sediment trap samples recovered from the Panama Basin, near the Hawaiian Islands and in the equatorial Atlantic. The observations on skeletal structures indicate that the genus Octactis is best considered a synonym of the genus Distephanus.

TL;DR: The Australian Myrmeleontinae and Acanthaclisinae are revised, and keys and figures provided to enable separation of all genera and species.
Abstract: The Australian Myrmeleontinae : Distoleontini (64 spp.) and Acanthaclisinae (16 spp.) are revised, and keys and figures provided to enable separation of all genera and species. Two species (Distoleon nefarius Navas, Cosina vaga Nav%aacute;s) have not been confirmed from Australia. New species are described of the distoleontine genera Stenogymnocnemia (one), Xantholeon (four), Stenoleon (five), Escura (six), Bandidus (of which Heteroleon Esben-Petersen is a new synonym) (22) and of the acanthaclisine genera Heoclisis (two) and Cosina (two). A new genus of Acanthaclisinae (Arcuaplectron) is also described. * Part II: Aust. J. Zool., Suppl. Ser., 1985, 105.

TL;DR: The types, position, arrangement and numbers of papillae are described for the specimens recovered from whitefishes and P. conostomum is considered conspecific with and a synonym for P. umblae.
Abstract: Specimens of Phyllodistomum conostomum from the type host, whitefish Coregonus lavaretus, in the type locality, Lake Storsjon, Sweden, are studied using light (LM) and scanning electron (SEM) microscopy. Comparisons are made with earlier descriptions. Specimens of Phyllodistomum from whitefish in Lake Tokke, Norway, are also studied using LM and SEM and found to be conspecific with P. umblae from the type host, arctic char Salvelinus alpinus, in the same locality. The types, position, arrangement and numbers of papillae are described for the specimens recovered from whitefishes. Since no significant morphological or size differences are found between specimens of P. umblae and P. conostomum from Norwegian and Swedish salmonids, P. conostomum is considered conspecific with and a synonym for P. umblae.

TL;DR: Until now, most authors have assigned the gall crabs, members of the genera Cryptochirus Heller, IS61, Hapalocarcinus Siimpson, 1859, Troglocarcinus Yerrill, 1908, and several others, to the family HapAlocarcinidae Caiman, 1900, however, a different family group name was used by at least three different authors prior to 1900.
Abstract: Until now, most authors have assigned the gall crabs, members of the genera Cryptochirus Heller, IS61, Hapalocarcinus Siimpson, 1859, Troglocarcinus Yerrill, 1908, and several others, to the family Hapalocarcinidae Caiman, 1900. Manning and Holthuis (1981:250), who summarized the names applied to families of marine brachyuran crabs, cited Caiman as author of the family name. However, a different family group name was used by at least three different authors prior to 1900. O. Paulson (1875:78) introduced the subfamily Cryptochirinae within the family Pinnotheridae for the genus Lithoscaptus A. MilneEdwards, 1862, now a synonym of Cryptochirus Heller, 1861. Paulson, who may not have been aware that Heller's account was published before that of MilneEdwards, actually considered Cryptochirus coralliodytes Heller to be a junior synonym oi Lithoscaptus paradoxus, whereas the reverse is true. Later, F. Richters (1880:159) cited the family Cryptochiridae. He recognized that Lithoscaptus paradoxus A. Milne-Edwards, 1862, was a synonym of Cryptochirus coralliodytes Heller, 1861, and synonymized the former. He erroneously attributed the family name Lithoscaptidae to A. Milne-Edwards. As pointed out by Manning and Holthius (1981:250), Milne-Edwards used a name in the French vernacular for the family. E. von Martens, in the Zoological Record iov 1880, cited the "Cryptochiridae" on p. 30, and noted that Richters had proposed the family but had not characterized it. Caiman (1900:48) recognized that Paulson had used the family group name Cryptochirinae, and, on p. 49, noted "we can only regard these two genera [Cryptochirus and Hapalocarcinus] as forming a family for the present incertae sedis, for which the name Hapalocarcinidae will have to replace Milne-Edwards's "Lithoscaptes," the latter being based on a synonym of Cryptochirus." The synonymy for the family Cryptochiridae Paulson, 1875, is as follows:

TL;DR: The three species of the difficult Hydropsyche instabilis-group described by F. Schmid (1952) from the Iberian peninsula are revised, based on the types.
Abstract: The three species of the difficult Hydropsyche instabilis-group described by F. Schmid (1952) from the Iberian peninsula are revised, based on the types. H. hibera proved to be a synonym of H. instabilis (Curtis); H. infernale (here emended to infernalis) and H. ambigua (originally described as dubia) are good species, the first apparently closely related to H. siltalai Dohler, the second extremely near to H. tenuis Navas. Notes on the known distribution in Spain of the three species are added ( H. instabilis and H. ambigua are widely distributed; H. infernalis is known from the Sierra Nevada only).

TL;DR: As part of critical review of the Geometroidea and Noctuoidea described by Linnaeus the species described by Carl Clerck are reviewed.
Abstract: As part of critical review of the Geometroidea and Noctuoidea described by Linnaeus the species described by Carl Clerck (1710-1765) are reviewed. Clerck (1759) described 25 nominal species of Geometroidea and Noctuoidea, all of Swedish origin, 22 of which are currently regarded as valid. 17 lectotypes are designated, 9 from the Clerck Collection, 6 from the Linnaeus Collection, and 2 from De Geer's collection. The name fulvago Clerck is a new junior synonym of Agrochola helvola (Linnaeus, 1758). The name "fulvago: Linnaeus 1761" is a later citation of Oerck's name, and thus should not replace the name Xanthia sulphurago (Denis & Schiffermuller, 1775). The name hepatica Clerck is a new senior synonym of Lithophane socia (Hufnagel, 1766). For Polia hepatica auct., nec Clerck, the name tincta Brahm, 1790 is available.

TL;DR: The Neolissochilus genus contains twenty-three nominal taxa and is most closely related to Tor Gray as discussed by the authors, which is a genus originally proposed by Weber and de Beaufort, 1916, a homonym but not a synonym of Zittel.
Abstract: The genus Neolissochilus, described herein, contains twenty-three nominal taxa and is most closely related to Tor Gray. The genus, originally containing two species, was proposed as Lissochilus Weber & de Beaufort, 1916, a homonym but not a synonym of Lissochilus Zittel, 1882. The most important character of the earlier genus, a sharply edged, horny covering of the mandible is ecophenotypically variable in these as in many other barbins, and therefore, a sharp lower jaw cannot serve as the primary distinguishing character for this lineage. Yet, the two species separated by Weber and de Beaufort (op. cit.) are contained within a distinct species assemblage. Besides a complete generic description and evaluation of diagnostic characters, the nominal taxa included in this “new Lissochilus” are discussed with reference to their type material and the nomenclatorial problems the complete species revision must address.

TL;DR: A description is given of two new species in the genus Pristimera, P. dariense from Panama and P. caudata from Suriname, which differ by its flattened disk from the other New World species of the genus.
Abstract: A description is given of two new species in the genus Pristimera, P. dariense from Panama and P. caudata from Suriname. P. dariense differs by its flattened disk from the other New World species of the genus, but would fit in the subgenus Trochantha N. Halle known from Africa. Cuervea crenulata sp. nov. is a species collected in Brazil, Minas Gerais. Another species in Cuervea, C. mitchellae (Johnst.) A.C. Smith is considered as a synonym of C. kappleriana. Hylenaea unguiculata sp. nov. is a new species from Suriname. The material on which the new species is based was at first erronously ascribed to the genus Tonteleawith remarkably similar flowers.
