TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an algorithm for determining the trap distribution without having to have an a priori knowledge of the trap parameters and without the necessity of laborious analyses.
Abstract: Equations are presented that permit the calculation of the isothermal current- (I) vs-time ($t$) characteristics for defect insulators and semiconductors in which the field is sufficiently high and the active region sufficiently thin so that recombination of free carriers is negligible. More important, however, it is shown that by plotting $\mathrm{It}$ vs ${log}_{10}t$ the resulting characteristic is either (a) in the case of distributed traps, a direct image of the trap distribution, or (b) in the case of discrete traps, exhibits a number of sharp maxima at various times, depending on the trap parameters. The technique permits the direct determination of the trap distribution without having to have an a priori knowledge of the trap parameters and without the necessity of laborious analyses.

TL;DR: The hardware architectural requirements for virtual machine systems are discussed and a fairly specific definition of a virtual machine is presented which includes the aspects of efficiency, isolation, and identical behavior.
Abstract: Virtual machine systems have been implemented on a limited number of third generation computer systems, for example CP-67 on the IBM 360/67. The value of virtual machine techniques to ease the development of operating systems, to aid in program transferability, and to allow the concurrent running of disparate operating systems, test and diagnostic programs has been well recognized. However, from previous empirical studies, it is known that many third generation computer systems, e.g. the DEC PDP-10, cannot support a virtual machine system. In this paper, the hardware architectural requirements for virtual machine systems are discussed. First, a fairly specific definition of a virtual machine is presented which includes the aspects of efficiency, isolation, and identical behavior. A model of third generation-like computer systems is then developed. The model includes a processor with supervisor and user modes, memory that has a simple protection mechanism, and a trap facility. In this context, instruction behavior is then carefully characterized.

TL;DR: A trap to detect beetles in stored grain that can be left in grain for long periods thus increasing its reliability and being escape-proof, is described and compared with earlier versions and other sampling devices.
Abstract: A trap to detect beetles in stored grain is described and compared with earlier versions and other sampling devices. Being escape-proof the trap can be left in grain for long periods thus increasing its reliability. It is strongly constructed of rust-proof materials to withstand field use. It is economical, light, compact, and simple to use in the field or laboratory. Preliminary trials show that it is highly effective as an insect detector and trap.

TL;DR: In this article, an improved finger trap is presented with a compact single loop spring wire clip with extended leads for engagement of the trap with a traction applying device, elastically spreading the clip open to allow passage of the cord and closing the clip behind the cord so that the trap cannot accidentally disengage from the cord during adjustment and application of traction.
Abstract: The invention relates to an improved finger trap, commonly known as ''''Chinese Finger Trap,'''' and particularly to one which distributes load over a larger area so as to reduce the digging into the finger caused by the conventional stranded wire ''''Chinese Finger Trap.'''' This is achieved by forming the trap from stranded wire with a plurality of strands arranged in side by side adjacent relationship throughout their loop configuration to form the open mesh defining the tubular shape of the trap. The adjacent side by side relation of the plurality of strands, at least two in number, effectively distributes or spreads the load while retaining the large gripping range of a single stranded wire construction. A substantial improvement in comfort to the patient is thereby achieved. The improved trap is also provided with a novel compact single loop spring wire clip with extended leads for engagement of the trap with a traction applying device. The extended lead automatically feeds an element such as a cord into the clip, elastically spreading the clip open to allow passage of the cord and closing the clip behind the cord so that the trap cannot accidentally disengage from the cord during adjustment and application of traction. The extended lead similarly feeds the cord through the clip for removal of the trap.

Abstract: A humane animal trap comprises an elongate generally rectangular housing formed of impervious material and having a spring urged trap door closing the front end thereof A releaseable latch retains the trap door in an open or set position and is released by operation of a cam trigger The trigger is connected to and is operated by a treadle plate The housing is provided with a valve which permits a user to introduce a predetermined amount of an anesthetizing fluid, such as chloroform or the like, into the housing for anesthetizing the trapped animal

Abstract: A battery-powered light trap giving 2 years’ continuous field operation was developed for portable use in almond orchards. Parts (battery, electrical components, and trap body) cost about $30.00 for the completed trap. Navel orangeworm, Paramyelois transitella (Walker), catches were almost as large with a battery-powered trap as with a conventional line-powered trap.

TL;DR: In this article, an improved trigger mechanism of the foot tread type for rotating frame animal traps was proposed, where a lever rests in the lower central portion of a trap substantially parallel to the base of the trap with the free end of the lever in frictional engagement with a firing surface.
Abstract: An improved trigger mechanism of the foot tread type for rotating frame animal traps, wherein a lever rests in the lower central portion of the trap substantially parallel to the base of the trap with the free end of the lever in frictional engagement with a firing surface which is connected to one frame and substantially perpendicular to the base of the trap. The fulcrum end of the lever is connected to a portion of one of the frames remote from the firing surface and has a detent mechanism associated therewith which releasably engages, when the trap is set, a retaining means associated with a proximate portion of the other frame. An animal, when in a vulnerable position with respect to the jaws of the trap causes the free end of the lever to be dislodged from the firing surface and the simultaneous disengagement of the detent permitting the closing of the jaws of the trap about the animal.

TL;DR: In this article, two trap states for spacecraft having asymmetric or unbalanced rotors are identified: a minimum energy state to which the spacecraft settles when the despin motor is deactivated and a violent increase in nutation.
Abstract: Two trap states are identified for spacecraft having asymmetric or unbalanced rotors. The first is a minimum energy state to which the spacecraft settles when the despin motor is deactivated. The second, encountered while despinning the platform, is characterized by a stalling of the despin process and a violent increase in nutation. Analysis demonstrates that, in both trap states, the spacecraft possesses two modes of attitude motion, each with a distinct frequency. Excitation by the motor at an appropriate natural frequency can lead to escape from either trap, even when the motor torque is insufficient to permit direct despin.
