TL;DR: An implantable cardiac pacing lead includes a porous, platinum electrode, a flexible electrically conductive coil, and a crimp tube coupling the electrode to the distal end of the coil.
Abstract: An implantable cardiac pacing lead includes a porous, platinum electrode, a flexible electrically conductive coil, and a crimp tube coupling the electrode to the distal end of the coil. A recess in the crimp tube, open to the electrode at the crimp tube distal end, houses a matrix impregnated with a therapeutic drug. The electrode is highly porous and loaded with a therapeutic drug in liquid or solid form. Immediately upon implant of the electrode at a selected myocardial location, the electrode begins dispensing the therapeutic drug. Meanwhile, the matrix begins to elute its drug at a rate more suited to chronic treatment. If desired, the recess can extend through the crimp tube to permit proximal end loading of the drug carrying matrix. A silicone plug, or an additional and proximal crimp tube section, is inserted into the recess after loading of the matrix to provide the required fluid seal. Finally, a variety of different matrices can be housed in the recess, to provide elution of different drugs and at differing rates.

TL;DR: In this paper, a device for interfacing between a microbore liquid chromatograph and a mass analyser is described. But it does not specify the interface between the two devices.
Abstract: A device for interfacing between a microbore liquid chromatograph and a mass analyser. In such a device, liquid from the liquid chromatograph is sprayed through a stainless steel capillary tube into the atmospheric pressure ionization chamber of a mass spectrometer. A voltage of e.g., plus or minus 3 KV is applied to the stainless steel tube, and a nebulizing gas, e.g. nitrogen, is directed at high velocity past the tube tip through another tube encircling the stainless steel tube. The combination of the nebulizing gas and the electric potential disperses the liquid at room temperature into a fine mist providing an increased and more stable ion signal without thermal decomposition of the compounds being analysed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the vapor pressure of several liquid metals was measured using a method based on the gas-controlled heat pipe, and small samples of the test material were placed in a tungsten tube and heated to temperatures above 2900 K. Most of the tests were terminated by the failure of the containment tube.
Abstract: The vapor pressure of several liquid metals was measured using a method based on the gas-controlled heat pipe. Small samples of the test material were placed in a tungsten tube and heated to temperatures above 2900 K. The vapor pressure was measured using a gas-buffered pressure transducer and the vapor temperature was inferred from the tube surface temperature, which was measured with an optical pyrometer. Most of the tests were terminated by the failure of the containment tube. The measured pressures agree well with those calculated by thermodynamic methods from data at lower temperatures.

TL;DR: In this article, a mirror is held by a flex-arm which includes breakaway flex-joints (hinge or ball), allowing rotational and translational movements, and a supply tube is carred inside the flexarm, has a friction fit in the ends of the arm, and is connected to the dispenser hose by a T-fitting.
Abstract: To prevent condensation on the mirror, it is heated with water from a supply tube connected from a showerhead pipe to a dispenser which disperses the heated water in either liquid or spray form, preferably from holes in a hose which is mounted in a rear temperature-control space and which surrounds the back of the mirror. The hose has an oval cross-section with holes on one of its flatter sides so that they will all face inward, toward the center of the mirror. Also the tube acts as a gasket to prevent the water from leaking through the mirror's front. The mirror is held by a flex-arm which includes breakaway flex-joints (hinge or ball), allowing rotational and translational movements. A supply tube is carred inside the flexarm, has a friction fit in the ends of the arm, and is connected to the dispenser hose by a T-fitting. A relief slot in the mirror end of the flex-arm allows water which enters the space in the flex-arm around the supply tube to leave such space. The mirror is mounted in a frame with a back plate which is slightly larger than the frame so that the back plate spreads the back of the frame, causing its front part to be compressed, thereby to squeeze the mirror into a concave, magnifying shape.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed to prevent and remove the clogging of the hollow passage of a vibration transmitting member by mounting a long fine diameter member generating ultrasonic vibration in the direction of a hollow passage as the suction passage for transmitting ultrasonic vibrations.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent and remove the clogging of the hollow passage of a vibration transmitting member, by mounting a long fine diameter member generating ultrasonic vibration in the direction of the hollow passage as the suction passage of a vibration transmitting member for transmitting ultrasonic vibration. CONSTITUTION: The leading end part of the vibration transmitting member 8 inserted in a sheath 2 is inserted in the body cavity to be brought into contact with a hematoma for example. At this time, a cock 12 is opened and a perfusion solution is supplied in the sheath 2 to be discharged from the leading end part of the sheath 2 and, at the same time, oscillation output is applied to a piezoelectric vibrator 9 by operating the oscillator provided in a drive circuit to generate an ultrasonic wave. A wire like member 10 is vibrated by said ultrasonic wave and this vibration is increased by a horn 7 to he transmitted to the vibration transmitting member 8. The hematoma is ground by the vibration transmitting member 8 and emulsified by the perfusion solution but further ground and emulsified by the wire like member receiving vibration provided in order to prevent the generation of the coagulation of blood in a hollow passage 3 to be collected in a drainage collecting bin through a tube 5. By this action, the clogging in the hollow passage 3 of the vibration preventing member 8 can be prevented and removed. COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio

TL;DR: In this paper, a hose assembly for a breathing system has a corrugated flexible breathing hose with a first adaptor at one (machine) end of the hose for connection to an anesthesia machine remote from the subject patient using the hose.
Abstract: A hose assembly for a breathing system has a corrugated flexible breathing hose with a first adaptor at one (machine) end of the hose for connection to an anesthesia machine remote from the subject patient using the hose for breathing. The adaptor has a cylindrical wall with a sampling port projecting laterally from the wall. A second adaptor is at the opposite (patient) end of the hose for connection to a breathing mask or endotracheal tube. A gas sample tube inside the hose has a sample entrance end projecting from the patient end adaptor a specified amount, extends through the entire length of the hose to the sampling port where it can communicate with a luer-lock connector and external sampling line to a gas sample monitor or, in another embodiment, the tube itself extends to the monitor. A resilient clip anchors the tube in a hose corrugation adjacent the patient end adaptor to fix the amount of extension of the sample tube from the patient adaptor and therefore fix its entrance end distance from the adaptor end. The tube is also anchored at the machine end adaptor. The tube is thick walled and relatively non-stretchable but loosely coiled inside the hose so it is not subjected to tensile loads when the corrugated hose is stretched linearly.

TL;DR: In this paper, a preform rod is aligned with and inserted into an over-closeness tube to provide an overclad preform and subsequently a drawn optical fiber in which the overcladding is substantially concentric with respect to the optical fiber core.
Abstract: Method and apparatus are provided for overcladding a preform rod (22). The preform rod is aligned with and inserted into an overcladding tube (30). The outer diameter of the preform rod and the inner diameter of the tube are such that the clearance between the tube and the rod does not exceed a predetermined value. Successive increments of length of the tube and rod therein are subjected to a controlled zone of heat while the pressure inside the tube is maintained at a value which is substantially less than that outside the tube. This causes the tube to be collapsed onto the preform rod to provide an overclad preform and subsequently a drawn optical fiber in which the overcladding is substantially concentric with respect to the optical fiber core.
