Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: A series of recommendations are derived, designed to improve pregnancy outcome in term breech presentation, and constant monitoring of the fetal heart is essential to prevent asphyxic perinatal death.

TL;DR: Twelve healthy women received a pudendal block with 0.25% bupivacaine-adrenaline for uncomplicated vaginal delivery and the newborn was low and about 25% of maternal concentration.
Abstract: Twelve healthy women received a pudendal block with 0.25% bupivacaine-adrenaline for uncomplicated vaginal delivery. Bupivacaine concentration in the newborn was low and about 25% of maternal concentration. Analgesia lasted about 4½ hours and no maternal or foetal side effects were noted.

TL;DR: Caudal analgesia provided a painless labour and delivery and made scar assessment easy and every caesarean scar was assessed digitally during labour and every uterus was examined after delivery.
Abstract: In the absence of a recurring indication for caesarean section vaginal delivery in subsequent pregnancy is a “trial of scar,” with potentially serious implications for mother and baby. Labour under caudal analgesia was carefully supervised for 75 women with a surgically scarred uterus—due to lower segment section in 72, abdominal hysterotomy in one, and transcavity myomectomy in two. Every caesarean scar was assessed digitally during labour and every uterus was examined after delivery. Caudal analgesia provided a painless labour and delivery and made scar assessment easy. Controlled intravenous Syntocinon infusion was given to 25 patients. One scar dehiscence occurred early in labour and one in the second stage. Seventy mothers had 71 vaginal deliveries with one pair of twins and one breech. There was one stillbirth and no neonatal death. There were five repeat sections.

TL;DR: Diazepam anaesthesia is simple to administer, effective, allows rapid delivery and is comfortable and safe for the mother and appears to be a safe method for the newborn, judged by the Apgar scoring system.
Abstract: In a clinical controlled trial the use of vinyl-ether-ether-N2O (53 cases) and diazepam-N2O (48 cases) as general anaesthetic for operative vaginal delivery is compared. Local anaesthetic for episiotomy was applied in both methods to enhance analgesia. In the diazepam group there were no maternal complications while in the vinyl-ether-ether-group there were 14 cases of vomiting, of which 2 led to aspiration with development of Mendelsohn's syndrome. A third case in the same group also had an aspiration without evident sequelae. The time from start of anaesthetic induction till complete delivery of the baby was on average 6 min 17 sec in the vinyl-ether-ether group compared with 2 min 21 sec in the diazepam group, which means an average reduction of about 4 min. Diazepam anaesthesia is simple to administer, effective, allows rapid delivery and is comfortable and safe for the mother. This form of anaesthesia made the obstetrician's task easier during delivery. It also appears to be a safe method for the new...

TL;DR: A 10-week-old boy was admitted to the hospital after resuscitation by his parents, and was discharged home on the third hospital day.
Abstract: Presentation of Case* A 10-week-old boy was admitted to the hospital after resuscitation by his parents. The child was born of a vaginal delivery at 40 weeks of gestation of a gravida 2, para 2, mother aged 35 years. The birth weight was 4.2 kg. There were no complications, and the child was discharged home on the third hospital day. Icterus was apparent to the mother for one week. The child was bottle fed until the age of eight weeks, when the feeding was changed to skimmed milk. At six weeks he was given an injection of diphtheria-pertussis-typhoid vaccine and . . .
