Journal ArticleDOI

Prevention of cyclic and triton-induced increases in hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase and sterol synthesis by puromycin.

TL;DR: Injection of Triton WR 1339 into strain A/HeJ mice caused a marked increase in the rate of sterol synthesis from acetate in liver slices and an increase of similar magnitude in the β-hydroxy-β-methylglutaryl (HMG)-coenzyme A reductase activity of liver microsomes.
Journal ArticleDOI

24(S),25-Epoxycholesterol. Evidence consistent with a role in the regulation of hepatic cholesterogenesis.

TL;DR: The results suggest that 24(S),25-epoxycholesterol may participate in the regulation of hepatic cholesterol metabolism in vivo, and like many other oxygenated sterols, represses hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase activity in cultured cells and binds to the cytosolic oxysterol-binding protein.
Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of regulatory oxysterols, 24(S),25-epoxycholesterol and 25-hydroxycholesterol, in cultured fibroblasts.

TL;DR: Biosynthetically tritiated sterols from Chinese hamster lung (Dede) cells were fractionated by high performance liquid chromatography, and fractions were assayed for their ability to repress 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase in L cell cultures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oxysterol regulators of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase in liver. Effect of dietary cholesterol.

TL;DR: The observed correlation between increased levels of regulatory oxysterols and repression of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase in cholesterol-fed mice is consistent with a hypothesis that intracellular oxysterol metabolites regulate the level of the reduct enzyme.
