Journal ArticleDOI
Electric potentiation, cooperativity, and synergism of magainin peptides in protein-free liposomes.
TL;DR: This work proposes a model in which binding to the surface of the membrane, mainly guided by electrostatic interactions, occurs and the bound form is in equilibrium with an n-meric complex of magainins spanning the membrane.
Journal ArticleDOI
Photoaffinity labeling of peptide binding sites of prolyl 4-hydroxylase with N-(4-azido-2-nitrophenyl)glycyl-(Pro-Pro-Gly)5.
TL;DR: It is concluded that the covalently bound nitreno derivative of N-(4-azido-2-nitrophenyl)glycyl-(Pro-Pro-Gly)5 acts by preventing the binding of peptide substrate to the catalytic site without interfering with thebinding of the other substrates and cofactors 2-oxoglutarate, O2, Fe2+, and ascorbate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Energy, control and DNA structure in the living cell.
J.E. Wijker,Peter Ruhdal Jensen,Jacky L. Snoep,A. Vaz Gomes,Myriam Guiral,A. P. M. Jongsma,A. de Waal,Sjouke Hoving,S. van Dooren,C.C. van der Weijden,M. van Workum,W.C. van Heeswijk,O. TL;DR: The extent to which the intracellular ATP level is involved in the control of cell physiology, how the elaborate control ofcell function may be analyzed theoretically and quantitatively, and if this can be utilized selectively to affect certain cell types are addressed.
Book ChapterDOI
Structure-function relationship of magainins. Studies in liposomal model system.
TL;DR: Magainins are 23 or 21 residues-long peptides, initially detected in the skin of Xenopus laevis 2: Magainin 2: GIGKFLHSAKKFGKAFVGEIMNS-CONH2, PGLa: GMASKAGAIAGKIAKVALKAL- CONH2.
