Journal ArticleDOI

The MELANIE project: From a biopsy to automatic protein map interpretation by computer

TL;DR: The ELSE/MELANIE project as mentioned in this paper is a set of computer programs which automatically detect, quantify, and compare protein spots shown on HR 2D-PAGE images.
Journal ArticleDOI

Protein heterogeneity of lipoprotein particles containing apolipoprotein A-I without apolipoprotein A-II and apolipoprotein A-I with apolipoprotein A-II isolated from human plasma.

TL;DR: Computer-assisted measurements of protein spot-staining intensities suggest an asymmetric distribution of the proteins (as well as the established apolipoproteins), with four showing greater prominence in particles containing Apolipoprotein A-I but no apoliproteins A-II.
Journal ArticleDOI

Automatic classification of two-dimensional gel electrophoresis pictures by heuristic clustering analysis: a step toward machine learning.

TL;DR: The classification method and the preliminary results obtained with liver biopsy electrophoretograms are described and heuristic clustering is also compared to other classification techniques.
Journal ArticleDOI

Immobilized pH gradients in capillary tubes and two-dimensional gel electrophoresis

TL;DR: Two‐dimensional gel electrophoresis patterns of human serum and liver biopsies, with isoelectric focusing and CA‐IPG as the first dimension, show the excellent resolution and potential of this technique.
Journal Article

A clinical molecular scanner: the Melanie project.

TL;DR: In this paper, an expert system, Melanie (medical electrophoresis analysis interactive expert), was developed to analyze and interpret protein maps. But it is not suitable for the analysis of protein expression and regulation.
