An artery, vein, aneurysm, vascular malformation or arterial fistula is occluded through endovascular occlusion by the endovascular insertion of a platinum wire and/or tip into the vascular cavity. The vascular cavity is packed with the tip to obstruct blood flow or access of blood in the cavity such that the blood clots in the cavity and an occlusion if formed. The tip may be elongate and flexible so that it packs the cavity by being folded upon itself a multiple number of times, or may pack the cavity by virtue of a filamentary or fuzzy structure of the tip. The tip is then separated from the wire mechanically or by electrolytic separation of the tip from the wire. The wire and the microcatheter are thereafter removed leaving the tip embedded in the thrombus formed within the vascular cavity. Movement of wire in the microcatheter is more easily tracked by providing a radioopaque proximal marker on the microcatheter and a corresponding indicator marker on the wire. Electrothrombosis is facilitate by placing the ground electrode on the distal end of the microcatheter and flowing current between the microcatheter electrode and the tip.

Inulin and oligofructose belong to a class of carbohydrates known as fructans. The main sources of inulin and oligofructose that are used in the food industry are chicory and Jerusalem artichoke. Inulin and oligofructose are considered as functional food ingredients since they affect physiological and biochemical processes in rats and human beings, resulting in better health and reduction in the risk of many diseases. Experimental studies have shown their use as bifidogenic agents, stimulating the immune system of the body, decreasing the levels of pathogenic bacteria in the intestine, relieving constipation, decreasing the risk of osteoporosis by increasing mineral absorption, especially of calcium, reducing the risk of atherosclerosis by lowering the synthesis of triglycerides and fatty acids in the liver and decreasing their level in serum. These fructans modulate the hormonal level of insulin and glucagon, thereby regulating carbohydrate and lipid metabolism by lowering the blood glucose levels; they are also effective in lowering the blood urea and uric acid levels, thereby maintaining the nitrogen balance. Inulin and oligofructose also reduce the incidence of colon cancer. The biochemical basis of these beneficial effects of inulin and oligofructose have been discussed. Oligofructoses are non-cariogenic as they are not used byStreptococcus mutans to form acids and insoluble glucans that are the main culprits in dental caries. Because of the large number of health promoting functions of inulin and oligofructose, these have wide applications in various types of foods like confectionery, fruit preparations, milk desserts, yogurt and fresh cheese, baked goods, chocolate, ice cream and sauces. Inulin can also be used for the preparation of fructose syrups.

Applications of inulin and oligofructose in health and nutrition.

The herb Artemisia annua has been used for many centuries in Chinese traditional medicine as a treatment for fever and malaria. In 1971, Chinese chemists isolated from the leafy portions of the plant the substance responsible for its reputed medicinal action. This compound, called qinghaosu (QHS, artemisinin), is a sesquiterpene lactone that bears a peroxide grouping and, unlike most other antimalarials, lacks a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring system. The compound has been used successfully in several thousand malaria patients in China, including those with both chloroquine-sensitive and chloroquine-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum. Derivatives of QHS, such as dihydroqinghaosu, artemether, and the water-soluble sodium artesunate, appear to be more potent than QHS itself. Sodium artesunate acts rapidly in restoring to consciousness comatose patients with cerebral malaria. Thus QHS and its derivatives offer promise as a totally new class of antimalarials.

Establishing gender of writer in suspected document is a critical task and is often encountered by the forensic document examiners. The Present paper emphasizes on estimating the probability of female authorship based on statistical validation of features observed in 200 handwriting samples of female writers. The frequency of features in samples was computed and relative probability was calculated. A simple tool is proposed here which computes the input values given by user and suggests the probability of female authorship. The tool was validated by 50 unknown samples and found to be 83.2% accurate.

Automated Tool Based on Statistical Study for Predicting Probability of Female Authorship

Cephalic index is an important parameter for deciding race and sex of an individual whose identity is unknown. The human body dimensions are affected by ecological, biological, geological, racial, sex, and age factors. In the present study, two hundred eighty (280) subjects comprising 20 males and 20 females of seven (7) different tribal population of northeastern states with age ranging from 20-30 years were included. Cephalic index was worked out by dividing the head breadth by head length and multiplying by 100 and the result was analyzed using Microsoft excel. The results of the present study show that seven different tribal population of North Eastern State of India can be classified as brachycephalic except Garo population, but even among them the value of cephalic index was found to be different for different population. The mean cephalic index of Garo population had the highest among the population, i.e. 85.39 and Khasi population had the lowest ie 80.97. There was a significant gender difference in the Cephalic Index. The data presented in the present report can be useful for anthropologists, an expert in forensic science and forensic investigation this study will serve as the basis of comparison for future studies.

Variation in features of cephalic index among seven different tribal population of northeastern states of India

Simulated transportation studies were carried out to study the individual effect of film wrapping and packaging box or their combination on the mechanical damage and rate of ripening in mango fruits. The mangoes wrapped in three polymeric films viz LD-80, LD-60 and D-955 and were packed in three packaging boxes viz wooden box, CFB box and plastic crates. These were transported for a period of upto 72 hrs. It was found that shifting from traditional wooden boxes to CFB/plastic crates would entail a transportation loss reduction by 37–40 per cent. Simply film wrapping would result in loss reduction by about 60 per cent in any packaging box over control fruits. A combination of low-density polyethylene film (80 gauge) and plastic crate resulted in lower rate of ripening.

Simulated transportation studies of mangoes

The present study is undertaken to examine how cable televison was affecting our family life and cultural values. The sample consisted of one hundred female respondents from five cable operators working in different zones of Ludhiana city. There were mostly nuclear familes and all of them had different choices. Due to one television set in most of the families the conflict among family members have shown increase due to their different interest. Even though the respondents were unanimous about bad effects of cable television viewing yet a majority did not consider it the wastage of time and money. As far as, change in life style was concerned, it was observed that due to cable television women spent less time in reading the newspaper and good magazines. A majority of them have reported late night sleep. It was observed that due to cable television family spend less time talking about mutual problems and experiences. Children were affected most due to over exposure and their studies were also affected. Cable television has overpowered our minds that we cannot live without it. Television programs are inflicting cruel blows on our families and social values and basic fabric of our Indian culture.
