Journal Article
Il-1 stimulates il-6 production in endothelial cells
Marina Sironi,F. Breviario,P. Proserpio,Andrea Biondi,Annunciata Vecchi,J. Van Damme,Elisabetta Dejana,A. Mantovani +7 more
TL;DR: The capacity to produce IL-6 may represent an important mechanism by which endothelial cells participate in inflammatory and immune reactions, and is defined as a communication signal between vascular and immunocompetent cells.
Journal Article
Tumor necrosis factor is chemotactic for monocytes and polymorphonuclear leukocytes.
TL;DR: Analysis of migration across polycarbonate and nitrocellulose filters of human peripheral blood monocytes and polymorphonuclear leukocytes revealed that maximal induction of migration required a positive concentration gradient between the lower and upper compartments and that TNF elicited an actual chemotactic response in phagocytes.
Journal ArticleDOI
In vitro and in vivo activation of endothelial cells by colony-stimulating factors.
Federico Bussolino,Marina Ziche,J M Wang,Daniela Alessi,Lucia Morbidelli,Ottavio Cremona,Amalia Bosia,Pier Carlo Marchisio,A. Mantovani +8 more
TL;DR: G- CSF and GM-CSF induce endothelial cells to express an activation/differentiation program (including proliferation and migration) related to angiogenesis, and the combination of a nonangiogenic dose of bFGF with G-CSf resulted in an angiogenic response higher than that elicited by either individual cytokines.
Journal Article
Induction of monocyte migration by recombinant macrophage colony-stimulating factor.
TL;DR: Recombinant M-CSF did not elicit a migratory response in large granular lymphocytes and in endothelial cells under conditions in which appropriate reference attractants were active, and may play a role in the selective recruitment from the blood compartment of mononuclear phagocytes to amplify resistance against certain noxious agents.
Journal Article
Expression of a monocyte chemotactic cytokine by human mononuclear phagocytes.
Francesco Colotta,A. Borre,Ji Ming Wang,M. Tattanelli,F. Maddalena,Nadia Polentarutti,Giuseppe Peri,A. Mantovani +7 more
TL;DR: The mononuclear phagocyte system can autonomously regulate the extravasation and activation of immature elements of the same lineage, a key event in inflammation and immunity.
