Metallic magnetic calorimeters

TL;DR: Metallic magnetic calorimeters (MMCs) as discussed by the authors are calorimetric particle detectors, typically operated at temperatures below 100 mK, that make use of a paramagnetic temperature sensor to transform the temperature rise upon the absorption of a particle in the detector into a measurable magnetic flux change in a dc‐SQUID.
Journal ArticleDOI

maXs: Microcalorimeter Arrays for High-Resolution X-Ray Spectroscopy at GSI/FAIR

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented two X-ray detectors for high-resolution spectroscopy on highly-charged heavy ions, which consist of metallic magnetic calorimeters (MMCs) forming linear eight-pixel arrays.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prospects for measuring the (229)Th isomer energy using a metallic magnetic microcalorimeter.

TL;DR: It is studied, how state-of-the-art magnetic metallic microcalorimeters with an energy resolution down to a few eV can be used to measure the isomer energy of Thorium-229 and the dependence of the attainable precision of the energy measurement on the signal and background count rates and the instrumental resolution.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metallic Magnetic Calorimeters for X-Ray Spectroscopy

TL;DR: In this article, an energy resolution of DeltaE FWHM = 2.7 eV for X-ray energies up to 6 keV was obtained for low-noise high-bandwidth dc superconducting quantum interference devices read out the small changes in magnetization.
