A Population of Massive, Luminous Galaxies Hosting Heavily Dust-Obscured Gamma-Ray Bursts: Implications for the Use of GRBs as Tracers of Cosmic Star Formation

TL;DR: In this article, the host galaxies of 23 heavily dust-obscured gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) observed by the Swift satellite during the years 2005-2009, representing all GRBs with an unambiguous host-frame extinction of A_V>1 mag from this period.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rapid-Response Mode VLT/UVES spectroscopy of GRB060418: Conclusive evidence for UV pumping from the time evolution of FeII and NiII excited- and metastable-level populations

TL;DR: In this article, high-resolution spectroscopic observations of GRB060418, obtained with VLT/UVES, were obtained at 11, 16, 25, 41 and 71 minutes (midexposure) after the trigger, with a resolving power of 7 km/s, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 10-15.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evidence for a supernova in reanalyzed optical and near-infrared images of GRB970228

TL;DR: In this article, B-, V-, R-c-, I_c-, J-, H-, K- and K'-band observations of the optical transient (OT) associated with GRB970228, based on a reanalysis of previously used images and unpublished data.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Metal Aversion of Long-duration Gamma-Ray Bursts

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the low-metallicity preference of LGRB hosts is not primarily driven by the anti-correlation between star formation and metallicity, but rather due to the astrophysics of the LGRBs themselves.
