Mazzali,Peter Nugent,Elena Pian,M. Stamatikos,C. C. Thoene,S. E. Woosley +45 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors report the discovery of nearby long, soft gamma-ray burst GRB 100316D, and the subsequent unveiling of its low redshift host galaxy and associated supernova.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Population of Massive, Luminous Galaxies Hosting Heavily Dust-Obscured Gamma-Ray Bursts: Implications for the Use of GRBs as Tracers of Cosmic Star Formation
Daniel A. Perley,Andrew J. Levan,Nial R. Tanvir,S. B. Cenko,J. S. Bloom,Jens Hjorth,T. Kruehler,Alexei V. Filippenko,A. S. Fruchter,Johan P. U. Fynbo,Pall Jakobsson,Jason S. Kalirai,B. Milvang-Jensen,Adam N. Morgan,Jason X. Prochaska,Jeffrey M. Silverman +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, the host galaxies of 23 heavily dust-obscured gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) observed by the Swift satellite during the years 2005-2009, representing all GRBs with an unambiguous host-frame extinction of A_V>1 mag from this period.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rapid-Response Mode VLT/UVES spectroscopy of GRB060418: Conclusive evidence for UV pumping from the time evolution of FeII and NiII excited- and metastable-level populations
P. M. Vreeswijk,C. Ledoux,Alain Smette,Sara L. Ellison,Andreas O. Jaunsen,Michael I. Andersen,A. S. Fruchter,J. P. U. Fynbo,Jens Hjorth,Andreas Kaufer,Palle Møller,Patrick Petitjean,Sandra Savaglio,R. A. M. J. Wijers +13 more
TL;DR: In this article, high-resolution spectroscopic observations of GRB060418, obtained with VLT/UVES, were obtained at 11, 16, 25, 41 and 71 minutes (midexposure) after the trigger, with a resolving power of 7 km/s, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 10-15.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence for a supernova in reanalyzed optical and near-infrared images of GRB970228
Titus Galama,Nial Tanvir,P. M. Vreeswijk,R. A. M. J. Wijers,Paul J. Groot,E. Rol,J. van Paradijs,Chryssa Kouveliotou,A. S. Fruchter,N. Masetti,Henrik D. Pedersen,Bruce Margon,Eric W. Deutsch,Mark R. Metzger,Lee Armus,S. Klose,B. Stecklum +16 more
TL;DR: In this article, B-, V-, R-c-, I_c-, J-, H-, K- and K'-band observations of the optical transient (OT) associated with GRB970228, based on a reanalysis of previously used images and unpublished data.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Metal Aversion of Long-duration Gamma-Ray Bursts
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the low-metallicity preference of LGRB hosts is not primarily driven by the anti-correlation between star formation and metallicity, but rather due to the astrophysics of the LGRBs themselves.
