Witold Zatonski,A.B. Lowenfels,Peter Boyle,Patrick Maisonneuve,H. B. Bueno De Mesquita,Parviz Ghadirian,Meera Jain,K. Przewozniak,Peter A. Baghurst,C. J. Moerman,A Simard,Geoffrey R. Howe,Anthony J. McMichael,C C Hsieh,Alexander M. Walker +14 more
TL;DR: A large, collaborative, multicenter, case-control study of cancer of the gallbladder was conducted in Australia, Canada, The Netherlands, and Poland from January 1983 through July 1988, and findings are consistent with a major role ofgallstones, or risk factors for gallstones, in the cause ofgallbladder cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reported family aggregation of pancreatic cancer within a population-based case-control study in the Francophone community in Montreal, Canada.
TL;DR: This unusual aggregation of familial pancreatic cancer among French Canadians cannot be explained by environmental factors alone, and some familial predisposition (hereditary factors) may play an important role in the etiology of this cancer, at least in this study region.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tobacco, alcohol, and coffee and cancer of the pancreas. A population-based, case-control study in Quebec, Canada.
TL;DR: A strong positive association was observed between total cigarette smoking and risk of pancreatic cancer and coffee drinkers were collectively at lower risk than nondrinkers, particularly when coffee was consumed with meals, not on empty stomach.
Journal ArticleDOI
A collaborative case-control study of nutrient intake and pancreatic cancer within the search programme.
Geoffrey R. Howe,Parviz Ghadirian,H. B. Bueno De Mesquita,Witold Zatonski,Peter A. Baghurst,Anthony B. Miller,A Simard,J. Baillargeon,F. de Waard,K. Przewozniak,Anthony J. McMichael,Meera Jain,C C Hsieh,Patrick Maisonneuve,Peter Boyle,Alexander M. Walker +15 more
TL;DR: Positive associations were observed with intake of carbohydrates and cholesterol, and inverse associations with dietary fiber and vitamin C, and evidence is provided for the hypothesis that some or all of these dietary factors may alter the risk of pancreatic cancer.
Journal Article
Vitamin D deficiency and cancer of the breast: an unprovocative ecological hypothesis.
A Simard,J Vobecky,J S Vobecky +2 more
TL;DR: A case-control study within the same cohort of women attending the Canadian National Breast Screening Study to check whether a depletion of vitamin D could be detected in the diet of breast cancer patients as compared to controls.
