The present paper reports the detailed study of various metal oxide nanomaterials as opto-electronic humidity sensor The sensor elements were fabricated and characterized as thin or thick film based on the semi-conducting metal oxide As semi-conducting metal oxides are known for their n-type conduction because of the presence of oxygen vacancies and change in refractive indices with the exposure of moisture therefore they were proven to be very good sensors for humidity Depending upon the need, the sensing materials were deposited either on the base of the prism or on the U-shaped borosilicate glass rods or on some other transparent substrates for opto-electronic sensing Light from LED or He–Ne laser was launched into the sensing element from one side and collected into the other side by optical power meter The mode of propagation of light was transmission, reflection or partially refraction Modulations in the intensity of light with changes in humidity were recorded Being optical in nature, such types of sensors are very useful for detection of moisture level at remote places or unmanned stations The primary purpose of this paper is to focus on the techniques used in these sensors

In this paper we report the sol–gel synthesis of MgFe2O4 nanostructures of polyhedron morphology. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns revealed the presence of pure phase MgFe2O4 crystalline materials whereas Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) confirmed the presence of Mg, Fe and O in the compound. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image shows the porous scenery on the surface of the material whereas transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image displays polyhedron morphology of the particles. Sensor films fabricated utilizing these nanostructures were tested for gas/humidity sensing with notable success as the average sensitivity of the humidity sensor was found to be ~ 0.0237 MΩ/%RH over the entire range of humidity tested for and maximum % sensor response was found to be 27.19 corresponding to exposure of 4 vol% LPG. Minimum response and recovery times were found to be 79 and 60 s respectively for 0.5 vol% LPG. The magnesium ferrite nanoparticles were tested for heat transfer applications as ethylene glycol based nanofluid component. The result shows that the thermal conductivity of ethylene glycol nanofluid was significantly increased compared to pure ethylene glycol due to the presence of suspended MgFe2O4 nanoparticles.

Experimental Investigation of Thermal Conduction in Copper-Palladium Nanofluids

A series of copper/palladium bimetallic nanostructures based nanofluids has been prepared with the aim of investigating antimicrobial activity. Synthesized nanofluids were characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and acoustic spectroscopy to determine their optical absorbance, structure, surface morphology and particle size distribution, respectively. Prepared nanofluids were tested for their antimicrobial activity using the agar disc diffusion method and their minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values were calculated by micro-dilution method. Results of antimicrobial activity revealed that prepared nanofluids possessed a good antibacterial activity against microbial species. In summary, the application of these bimetallic nanofluids as antimicrobial agent will be very valuable for biomedical and industrial applications
