Natural gas is an abundant resource in various parts of the world. Methane is the major component of natural gas, often comprising over 90 mol% of the hydrocarbon fraction of the gas. Methane itself is primarily used as a fuel, while the nonmethane components can be separated and used as feedstocks for the production of chemicals or liquid fuels. In many cases, however, natural gas reserves are found in locations distant from their place of utilization. Since it is not generally economical to transport liquefied natural gas, efficient methods are needed to convert methane into transportable liquid products. A possible route is oxidative dimerization of methane followed by oligomer-ization of the C2 products.

Oxidative Coupling of Methane to Higher Hydrocarbons

The present study concerns with exploring the possibility of using of tartaric acid pretreated sugarcane bagasse (SCB) for removing diazonium blue (DB) from aqueous solutions. The effect of different factors on the efficiency of the adsorbent for the DB dye removal was investigated, including initial dye concentration, contact time, SCB dosage and SCB particle size. Langmuir, Freundlich, Tempkin and D–R isothermal models have been employed to analyze the adsorption equilibrium data. It was found that the adsorption of the dye fits well with the D–R model. The adsorption kinetics was also done applying four kinetic models. The regression equation coefficients refer to fitting the data to the second-order kinetic equation for removal of the DB dye. It is probable that the rate limiting step is a chemical adsorption between the adsorbent and the dye. This chemisorption process is further confirmed from the energy value of 15.1 kJ mol−1 deduced from the D–R isotherm.

Effect of different metal sulfate precursors on structural and catalytic performance of zirconia in dehydration of methanol to dimethyl ether

The thermal decomposition of pure ammonium heptamolybdate tetrahydrate (AHMT), and doped with Li+, Na+ and K+ ions was investigated using thermogravimetry, differential thermal analysis, infrared and X-ray diffraction techniques. Results obtained revealed that the decomposition of AHMT proceeded in three decomposition stages in which both NH3 and H2O were released in all stages. The presence of 0.5 mol % alkali metal ions enhances the formation of the intermediateb (NH4)2MO7O22·2H2O while the decomposition of this intermediate into MoO3 is slightly affected in the presence of all dopant concentrations used. The infrared absorption spectra of the thermal products of AHMT treated with 10 mol% alkali metal ions (AMI) at 350°C indicated a reduction of some Mo6+ ions. By heating of AHMT above 500°C in presence of 5 or 10 mol % of AMI, a solid-solid interaction between alkali metal oxides and MoO3 giving rise to well crystallized alkali metal molybdates. finally the activation energies accompanied various decomposition stages were calculated.

Effects of alkali metal ions on the thermal decomposition of ammonium heptamolybdate tetrahydrate

The kinetics or chemical equilibria of exchange of Ca(II), Sr(II), Ba(I), Zn(II), Cd(II), Al(III), Fe(III), Se(IV), Ce(IV) and Th(IV) counter ions in alginate gel complexes by H+ ions have been investigated titrimetrically and conductimetrically at a constant ionic strength of 0.1 mol/dm3. The thermodynamic parameters have been evaluated and are discussed in terms of ionic radii and polarizability of the metal ions, coordination geometry, and stability of the gel complexes.
