Journal ArticleDOI
Levels of selected carcinogens and toxicants in vapour from electronic cigarettes
Maciej L. Goniewicz,Maciej L. Goniewicz,Maciej L. Goniewicz,Jakub Knysak,Michal Gawron,Leon Kosmider,Andrzej Sobczak,Jolanta Kurek,Adam Prokopowicz,Magdalena Jabłońska-Czapla,Czesława Rosik-Dulewska,Christopher Havel,Peyton Jacob,Neal L. Benowitz +13 more
TL;DR: The findings of this study are consistent with the idea that substituting tobacco cigarettes with e-cigarettes may substantially reduce exposure to selected tobacco-specific toxicants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cherry-flavoured electronic cigarettes expose users to the inhalation irritant, benzaldehyde
Leon Kosmider,Andrzej Sobczak,Adam Prokopowicz,Jolanta Kurek,Marzena Zaciera,Jakub Knysak,Danielle M Smith,Maciej L. Goniewicz +7 more
TL;DR: Clinicians need to be aware of this emerging risk of adverse health effects stemming from long-term inhalation of flavouring ingredients such as benzaldehyde and ask their patients about use of flavoured e-cigarettes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Blood cadmium, mercury, and lead in children: An international comparison of cities in six European countries, and China, Ecuador, and Morocco
Frantiska Hruba,Ulf Strömberg,Milena Černá,Chunying Chen,Florencia Harari,Raúl Harari,Milena Horvat,Kvetoslava Koppova,Andreja Kos,Andrea Krsková,Mladen Krsnik,Jawhar Laamech,Yufeng Li,Lina Löfmark,Thomas Lundh,Nils-Göran Lundström,Badiaa Lyoussi,Darja Mazej,Joško Osredkar,Krystyna Pawlas,Natalia Pawlas,Adam Prokopowicz,Gerda Rentschler,Vera Spevackova,Zdravko Špirić,Janja Snoj Tratnik,Staffan Skerfving,Ingvar A. Bergdahl +27 more
TL;DR: It is shown that European city children's B-Cd and B-Pb vary only little between countries; B-Hg differs considerably, due to varying tooth restoration practices and fish intake, and traffic intensity close to home was a statistically significant determinant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Perinatal exposure to lead induces morphological, ultrastructural and molecular alterations in the hippocampus.
Irena Baranowska-Bosiacka,Lidia Strużyńska,Izabela Gutowska,Anna Machalińska,Agnieszka Kolasa,Patrycja Kłos,Grzegorz A. Czapski,Mateusz Kurzawski,Adam Prokopowicz,Mariola Marchlewicz,Krzysztof Safranow,Bogusław Machaliński,Barbara Wiszniewska,Dariusz Chlubek +13 more
TL;DR: The data shows that pre- and neonatal exposure of rats to Pb, leading to a concentration of Pb-B below 10 μg/dL, can decrease the number of hippocampus neurons, occurring concomitantly with ultrastructural alterations in this region.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Effect of Occupational Lead Exposure on Blood Levels of Zinc, Iron, Copper, Selenium and Related Proteins
Aleksandra Kasperczyk,Adam Prokopowicz,Michał Dobrakowski,Natalia Pawlas,Sławomir Kasperczyk +4 more
TL;DR: The effect of occupational exposure to lead on the metabolism of trace metals appears to be limited, however, significant associations between lead exposure and levels of copper and selenium were shown.
