TL;DR: It is concluded that infants receiving intravenous therapy have aluminum loading, which is reflected in increased urinary excretion and elevated concentrations in plasma and bone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tissue and Cellular Basis for Impaired Bone Formation in Aluminum-related Osteomalacia in the Pig
TL;DR: Aluminum impairs the formation of mineralized bone in vivo by decreasing the number of active osteoblasts, and this change can be distinguished from the effect of aluminum to inhibit, either directly or indirectly, the calcification of osteoid.
Journal ArticleDOI
Encephalopathy in childhood secondary to aluminum toxicity
TL;DR: A child with chronic renal failure with documented normal nenrologic function at age 2 years who developed the encephalopathic syndrome after 6 years of orally administered aluminum therapy before end-stage renal failure occurred is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hepatic Abnormalities Associated with Aluminum Loading in Piglets
Gordon L. Klein,Aileen B. Sedman,Melvin B. Heyman,Gopal Marathe,Hector A. Battifora,Jack L. Worrall,Ronald L. Horst,George J. Brewer,Nancy L. Miller,Allen C. Alfrey +9 more
TL;DR: Cholestasis is a common complication of total parenteral nutrition (TPN) in infants and a contaminant of the TPN solution, such as aluminum, that accumulates in liver and may act as a hepatotoxin, may alter lysosomal function and possibly affect bile flow or content.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prednisone therapy of membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis in children.
TL;DR: Although the use of prednisone in children with MPGN remains controversial, it is observed a diminution in proteinuria and normalization of creatinine clearance with therapy initiated early in the disease course.
