It is necessary to have some facility with algebraic notation and manipulation to be able to use the volume intelligently. The problems are presented from the theoretical point of view, without such practical examples as would be helpful for those not acquainted with mathematics. The mathematical justification for the techniques is given. As a somewhat advanced treatment of the design and analysis of experiments, this volume will be interesting and helpful for many who approach statistics theoretically as well as practically. With emphasis on the \"why,\" and with description given broadly, the author relates the subject matter to the general theory of statistics and to the general problem of experimental inference. Complex network measures of brain connectivity: uses and interpretations.

One of the advantages of functional languages is the ability to use higher-order functions to guide the design of certain classes of algorithms. This paper is concerned with genetic algorithms (GAs) and their application to the solution of the single row routing (SRR) problem which is an important problem in the design of multilayer printed circuit boards (MPCBs). The paper presents a framework which allows high-level modelling of a GA solution as well as providing an executable specification which can be used to refine the parameters of the GA search. This is a first step towards “intelligent” GA design interfaces and efficient implementations possibly based on parallel evaluation.

An attempt is made to present a method for the adaptive control of nonlinear systems based on a feedforward neural network. The approach incorporates a neurocontroller used within a reinforcement learning framework, which reduces the problem to one of learning an stochastic approximation of an unknown average error surface. Emphasis is placed on the fact that the neurocontroller does not need any input/output information about the controlled system. The proposed method promises to be an efficient tool for adaptive control for both static and dynamic nonlinear systems. Several examples are included to illustrate the scheme.
